100 Song Challenge: 2000-2019

With the end of the decade approach various places have already done listicles but personally I think the most interesting list is your own one. Anything voted ends up skipping over the things that we’re unique and instead it becomes a popular contest, with voters being tactical and second guessing the mob.

Here’s my challenge for you:

I’ve just done mine as a first draft and to be honest I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few favourites. I’ve tried to make it as a mix that flows and shows off various pockets of music that have excited me over the last two decades - spans from lush ambient pieces to pop bangers. Put in a few things that I’ve discovered through reading these boards and plenty of bits that not nearly enough people heard.

Here we go. I started with 100 depressing songs, trimmed off a quarter of them, and replaced them with some loud / fast / heavy / anxious classics. I gave up on ordering after four songs and just went with year / alphabetical order.

I think I’m actually really happy with how this came out, despite a few tough omissions that easily could / should have made it.

Note #1 - I feel compelled to tell everyone that Zwan isn’t on Spotify. As a result I had to make a substitution for the excellent Mary Star of the Sea, one of the easiest choices for the list. I can’t have anyone thinking I don’t love Zwan.

Note #2 - Red Hot Chili Peppers? Foo Fighters? Coldplay?? A double dose of Delonge??? You got it, I’m trash!

This was the last song I reluctantly cut to get my list down to 100! Mainly as the volume levelling on Spotify is a bit crap. Nice list though, few tracks I’ve not heard before so will be checking them out for sure :wink:
