how are you rating artists where it’s hard to separate the art from the artist? I’ve really gone off Arcade Fire. I expect they won’t be the only example to come up either.
On that subject, I’ve got Little Richard today 
Answer is - “it depends” - some kind of internal calculation of “how much did I like the album originally” vs “what did they do and how much does it taint my view of the album”. So, I think I still gave OK Computer a 3/5 (would have been a 5 if it weren’t for their stance on playing in Israel), but I gave The Suburbs 1/5 (feel like Win Butler’s behaviour negates any artistic merit - totally undermines the art and the album).
The other element to the calculation is “how much do I know” - I’ll admit I’m not reading a WIkipedia article on every artist I listen to.
Also I skipped The Suburbs without listening. I’ll determine how many albums I need to listen to before I die (assuming I survive beyond the three years of this project)

This could be my group’s most controversial album so far. A of solid five from two of us and a couple out after one or two songs. We will see how this washes out. I have to say it sounded immense on the car stereo this morning and it’s been a few years since I’ve given it a blast.
My group are nearly all Radiohead nerds and have given all Radiohead albums 4 or 5 stars so far (Kid A hasn’t come up yet but we’ve had most of the others), our biggest divide is when it comes to the weirder post-punk or krautrock stuff, I think PiL, Pere Ubu and Faust have been our most divisive albums so far. Was pleased The Fall went down fairly well.
Our “Most Controversial” list is pretty decent. I scored most of these pretty highly. The big rock albums, hip hop and the 1950s stuff are the ones we all agree on.
