So said BBC6 music the other day
You’ve got to be your own dog.
Still an incredible album. Weirdly, later dEUS is now being ripped off to a great extent by no lesser than Mumford and Sons - whatever song of theirs that has been on the radio recently sounds like it’s off Pocket Revolution.
One memory I’ll always have of dEUS was being driven back home after having four wisdom teeth taken out after a general anaesthetic at the dental hospital in King’s Cross. Suds n’ Soda was playing on Radio 1’s Evening Session. This was way back in 1994. Sorry to digress. Their early albums were great.
The Ideal Crash has to be one of the most underrated albums ever.
Suds n’soda and their debut album put them on the map but Ideal Crash is brilliant. Instant Street is their best song of mine. I’ve seen them live a few times. Strangely, very hit and miss.
I don’t think there’s a single bad song on there. I fell deeply in love with it when it first came out, and it’s one of the few albums I own that’s never lost that feeling it gave me when I first heard it.
The Ideal Crash was the birth of bland dEUS. Admittedly the best example of it by far, but not a patch on the first two.
I think when Craig Ward left the band changed. Not saying I don’t like what they do now but they definitely changed… Craig has done lots of interesting stuff since leaving dEUS https://www.jezusfactory.com/bands/bands-on-jezusfactory/craig-ward/
Also Rudy Trouve doing lots of excellent stuff including Tape Cuts Tape and his solo stuff, a new single has just come out Rudy Trouvé - 'THIN CAN' - Official Video - YouTube
Craig, Rudy and Stef still making great music to this day…
More conventional certainly, but definitely not bland.
I love Tom a ridiculous amount but I think he needs great foils to play off. Stef and Craig were perfect, but in different ways. I feel a bit like everything after The Ideal Crash feels like unfiltered Tom and I enjoy it less as a result.
Kind of agree, but at its best, its still fantastic.
Not got much time for anything that came after, unfortunately.
