Wearing a dead guy’s face definitely isn’t a trope/cliché now, is it?

I love Se7en

but there were loads of serial killer films that came out after SOTL

Along Came a Spider
Copycat
Along Came a Spider etc

Anyway - this argument is getting old. Let’s Just Agree that the Fisher King is shit yeah?

don’t think so

But Along Came a Spider is based on a book from 1993, and the sort of things you’re mentioning here, e.g. the trophy room, are standards of serial killers (yeah I’ve been listening to way too much All Killa No Filla). I mean it’s hard to really draw the lines where a book might have influenced another book or a film of that book influenced that book and so once someone makes the film it becomes fairly muddied to say the film created the tropes.

Anyway, The Fisher King is great you nutter. Did you only watch it once 25 years ago? Maybe you should give it a contemporary rewatch.

I’m with you on this - in as much as Silence Of The Lambs kicked off that whole trend for US films following a profiler on the trail of a serial killer. Manhunter did the same several years earlier, but not many followed in its wake.

yeah - I was waiting for someone to go “but what about Manhunter?”

I’m rubbish at arguing on the internet basically

We’ve not talked about Brie Larson’s “no chill” reaction to Casey Affleck winning, not that there’s much to say other than good on her:

(p.s sorry for Buzzfeed but it’s just the easiest way to visualise what happened)

PwC adjudicate the National Lottery over here as well (that bloke/ladybloke with the clipboard who stands off to the left and doesn’t do anything is one of their ghouls). They’ve dicked that up a few times but fortunately no-one watches it any more.

Good on her.

He still deserved to win, mind you.

Yes, he did undoubtedly have the stand out male performance of the field but his allegations, and the implied celebration of them, are still a bit troubling. I wonder if Mel Gibson was allowed back in purely to deflect some of the attention…

Yeah like I said I think it’s more notable how few mistakes happen to be honest. Whether or not it’s money well spent is another matter.

Also it’s reassuring that the representation of the Oscars in Naked Gun 33 1/3 is pretty accurate.

weird that she was the one presenting it

I would assume that it’s a tradition for last years best actress winner to present the best actor this year
