I think 1998 is an all-timer, especially for very focused sad albums. I don’t know what was going on that year, but it gave us:
- The Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
- The Eels - Electro-shock Blues
- Elliot Smith - XO
- Sparklehorse - Good Morning Spider
And then on top of that: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, QOTSA’s debut, Pearl Jam’s Yield, Afghan Whigs’ 1965, the expanded version of GY!BE’s F♯ A♯ ∞, Pedro the Lion’s It’s Hard to Find a Friend, and a few more.
