Very daft scene

Ditto computers/AIs - I remember how surprising it was in Moon when the computer turns out to not be evil!

Yeah this BFI trailer for the new Leone-fest is a thing of beauty. All the movies look gorgeous in their new remastered/restored versions

…but in a shocking reveal turned out to be Kevin Spacey.

I know it’s technically a prequel but in the Alien universe they never seem to get the hang of making androids that aren’t evil / attempt to murder their human overlords. Across hundreds of years they maintain the same critical design flaws.

Re-watched Oblivion at the weekend and really enjoyed it, it has been lumped in with a load of forgettable science fiction rubbish but I think it’s really underrated. It has its own visual style, uses a lot of practical effects and locations instead of CGI and I think is shot absolutely beautifully, it’s rare I notice cinematography but this is just gorgeous, you could freeze-frame a lot of shots and they would be images you could just hang on your wall. Not sure why there’s no love for this tbh.

Tom Cruise is great

Doesn’t stop shitloads of people going to see every Mission Impossible sequel!

He does very little running or shouting in this.

Totally agree. Really solid film. It’s a shame Joseph Kosinski’s career hasn’t really taken off, really wanted him to make a Star War. Really.

Battle of Algiers - really great, not much to say that haant been said

The Hunters - quite a nasty (in a gpod way) film. Looks amazing considering it was made in 1996, really looks quite modern. Obvioua plot but still takes you in. On iplayer and worth a watch

The Conspiracy. Good mock documentary one this. Really well paced and builds suspense extremely well. Enjoyed it a lot

Finally watched Oldboy as mentioned up thread. I kinda guessed that Mido was his daughter when they met but it was still a kick when it was revealed

if there’s a more emotional wanking someone off scene in film, I haven’t seen it

thought the activism stuff was really energetic and exciting. also, the decision to not have nothing over the end credits was surprisingly powerful. probably the quietest I’ve experienced a cinema being

Saw A Quiet Place yesterday, very disappointing.

Lovely idea, looks pretty good, sounds great but that’s about it.

Not scary and because of all the annoying problems with it I didn’t even find it particularly tense.

Creatures uninspiring. Characters unengaging. Plot dumb as fuck.

So many questions leaping out at me throughout the film. I don’t mind when a film carries me through and then afterwards questions start to niggle a little but when I’m constantly thinking “why this, why that” I get pissed off.

Biggest question of all though WHY THE FUCK IS SHE PREGNANT?
