Still a few things I’m anticipating in December (Blockhead, Conway, Curly Castro, Vic Spencer) but so far it looks like this. Not sure if it’s been a crazily good year, or just that I’m engaging a lot more. I seem to suddenly have an abundance of podcasts and Twitter accounts/blogs that are hipping me to a lot of things, but there seems to be so much great stuff coming out - especially if you like that deconstructed NY style, which I can’t get enough of.

Roc Marciano - RR2 Bitter Dose
scallops hotel - sovereign nose of (y)our arrogant face
P Brothers - Mentaltainment EP
E L U C I D x Haj of Dumhi - No Edge Ups In Uganda
ANKHLEJOHN - VAN GHOST
Westside Gunn - Supreme Blientele
Nostrum Grocers - Nostrum Grocers
Knowledge The Pirate - Flintlock
Hermit & The Recluse - Orpheus vs The Sirens
Mestizo and The Heavy Twelves - Big Bad Death
Elcamino - Elcamino
Armand Hammer - Paraffin
Roc Marciano - Behold a Dark Horse
Mach Hommy - DUCK CZN: Chinese Algebra
Ralphiie Reese - Shyne Mosley II
DJ Muggs x Roc Marciano - KAOS
Rome Streetz - Street Farmacy
Daytona - Pusha T
Nickelus F - STUCK
Homeboy Sandman & Edan - Humble Pi
Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
ELUCID - Shit Don’t Rhyme No More
Styles P & Dave East - Beloved
Curren$y, Freddie Gibbs, Alchemist - Fetti
Black Thought - Streams of Thought 1
Benny - Tana Talk 3
SMOOVTH & GIALLO POINT - Medellin II
Kenny Segal - happy little trees
Zilla Rocca - Future Former Rapper
Jeremiah Jae - Daffi

No particular order, but favourites are Hermit & The Recluse, ELUCID and Benny.

Nice man. A lot I haven’t heard here, will have to dig through. You’re completely right about deconstructed NY sound releases this year. Think it might be between ‘Paraffin’ and ‘Orpheus vs the Sirens’ for my rap AOTY.

Still early days with it but I feel like Earl’s sound increasingly fits in with those NY guys. Can hear a lot of Ka / Armand Hammer influence in ‘Some Rap Songs’.

What Twitter accounts / blogs are you regularly checking out of interest?

Actually, yeah - I listened to the Armand Hammer again last night and it’s got to be top 5 or even 3 for me.

Podcasts…

My main ones are…
Dope Sh!t Podcast. Done by the sound engineer (from early Def Jux days) and rapper, Nasa. Their end of year for 2017 was really kickstarted my listening. They chat for a while then play a lot of new music.

Dad Bod Rap Pop. 3 guys just chatting, but also did a great end of year list last year, and have great guests (billy woods last episode actually)

Take It Personal. Long episodes with some great guests. Musically, they play a lot of classic stuff (serious deep dives on their guests) and the new stuff is in the modern boom bap and less of the abrasive experimental styles.

Twitter/'blogs

And that pretty much has me covered.

Really want to listen to the new Earl but my order (of a fkn download) still hasn’t arrived yet

Might just email the store billions of times

This song is pretty old (came out in May I think), but been obsessed with it for the past couple of months. Kenny Beats has had a hell of a year.

While we’re on Kenny Beats… this is great. Very different beat to the last one.

Oh hey, this EP is really good isn’t it? Would have thought I’d prefer the 9th Wonder one but this is the better one for sure

Aye, it’s better as a whole for sure. The first two tracks on the 9th Wonder one are the overall highlights IMO though.

that Swae Lee christmas carol is emotional man. and the other one is a real 2 live crew throwback which you don’t get a lot of in 2018. wish he rapped for longer tbh

A new 9th Wonder thing. Liking this.

I just can’t keep up this year. Actually hoping for a drought in 2019 as I have pretty much listened to no new music this year aside from rap.

Oh, watched that Jonah Hill Mid90s film last night. It was purely style over substance but I was still quite into it. Great soundtrack, cameos by Del Tha Funkee Homosapien and Harmony Korine, great trainers, posters, Stretch and Bob tapes - worth a look even though it’s ultimately not really saying anything at all.

is Shippers @theShipment still alive and well?

Thought about starting a 2k19 hip-hop thread but it would be like Raekwon producing a Wu-Tang album without discussing it with the RZA

Fave new rap(-ish) album is definitely Bad Bunny’s and that came out on Xmas eve so can just about get away with mentioning it in this thread

I am alive and well just got crazy busy (and out of town again). Should be back to normal activities in the next week or so. Fire away on the new thread!
