It’s definitely a tad overrated. I’d take OK and Stress over it any day. Meanwhile, Desire is possibly a tad underrated? Good album, but seems to have been completely forgotten about.

What a shite cover/title

:unamused:

Not really an album I listened to a lot if I’m honest. Should probably revisit.

Yeah, it’s growing on me a fair bit now :+1:

Yeah, I mean, I guess it’s not what most fans want from a Pharoahe Monch album. People like the dark and gritty stuff with mega hard bars. Desire is a funky, playful and soulful crossover record without many of his very best verses, but I think he does a good job of it. I’d still say Internal Affairs is the better record but Desire is a fun listen

One of the only rappers from the 90s who could easily fit into the current landscape and he keeps missing the mark. I mean, he could just remake Electric Circus and it’d be warmly received today.

I’d actually had a pretty good time with his last two so I might give this a fair trial. The features list is pretty strong

Yeah, maybe I’m asking too much of a 50 year old rapper. Black America was quite good, if playing it a bit straight. This sounds fine.

Guess I have higher expectations for him. Still think the run from Resurrection to Be is practically peerless, and still think he sounds great now when he’s on it.

Yeah it’s one of my favourite runs too. He’s still holding it together far better than some of his peers. Think of the ‘conscious’ breed from that era that him and probably Q-Tip could and maybe should be having more of a continuous dent and influence on the culture; this new Common has rap-MOR written all over it.

Mos Def too, definitely.

Actually just the whole neo soul/hip hop scene is full of reclusive geniuses who can’t be bothered to put out any music isn’t it? Probably what created the space for the revival.

So fucking good. A slightly more experimental take on The Hybrid style. Looking forward to this so much.

Also, just after @nav was saying we need more Q-Tip in the game.

Been playing another new one, produced by Q-Tip, in his live sets

something quite comforting about an autumn 2019 lil b album

can’t put him in the worst artwork thread and risk an eternal curse but god damn

Saw this live and it seriously moved people - sounded like a monster hit to me, and I guess they’re saving it as the main single.

I was there too! Great set

6 1/2 hour Hieroglyphics special on Take It Personal. These guys really do have the best selection of b-sides/remixes/deep cuts in hip hop.

Didn’t realise Q Tip produced that beat. Could be Paul White. 30 odd years deep into his career. What a guy.
