Looking forward to Porridge Radio performing on The One Show if they win.

They are going to win (says the guy whose predictions are usually wrong)

Final predictions? I’ll stick to my above no doubt wrong prediction

Would be happy with

Laura Marling – Song For Our Daughter
Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia (yes this is a U-turn)
Kano – Hoodies All Summer
Moses Boyd – Dark Matter
Stormzy – Heavy Is The Head
Michael Kiwanuka - Kiwanuka

Gonna go with Kiwanuka as my pick. I know it doesn’t meet the debut or second album criteria but it just feels like the right choice.

Hope whoever wins it gives it to Rina in solidarity in their acceptance speech.

Moses Boyd

Moses Boyd will win.
Kano should win though. Just an utterly brilliant & underrated album. I honestly think it’s the best on the list by miles (& I’m a fan of most of these albums).

I think it’ll be Kiwanuka or Boyd - I think they’ll try and award it to an artist of colour in light of everything that’s happened this year which is fair enough, and I think those two are the most likely.

I’d be absolutely delighted if Porridge Radio get it as well, as they’re the type of band who have been particularly badly shafted by this year.

4 of the last 5 winners have been artists of colour. I don’t think what’s happened this year will play into their thinking or will be the reason for another one winning.

Yeah, fair point - wasn’t coming at it from the angle of it being tokenism or righting previous wrongs, but can see it might have looked like that. Kiwanuka or Boyd would both be very worthy winners.

I’ll be very surprised if the winner isn’t one of Porridge Radio, Kiwanuka or Boyd anyway (this post will age well I’m sure)

Wonder if I can put a bet on Working Men’s Club wining next year already

Think this might be the year the DiCaprio Effect clinches it for L. Marling. Look nice on her mantelpiece next to her Best British Female BRIT.

Kiwanuka imo

Would love Kano to win, tbh. Feels like an important album and he’s been grinding away for years. This is just astonishing

The three best albums there for me, so I’m not expecting any of them to win.

This is also my gut feeling, which would be disappointing after, in my opinion, her fifth successive underwhelming album.

The Mercury Prize isn’t the Oscars, they don’t really go in for career awards.

First time for everything m8
