Giant Swan is a great shout! Doubt it will, mind.

Who is the other name worthy of dropping please?

Whining that her album hasn’t been nominated as one of the best of the year then calling everyone a cunt. Doesn’t paint her in the best light to be honest

Re: The 1975 (the only act we know definitely are nominated) - the panel nominate a big name every year so the tabloids will cover it in their entertainment sections. Don’t think any of them will ever win (although that’s mostly because their albums are as bland as a naked cream cracker)

Expect BBC news to lead with “1975 lead the way in Mercury nominations” in an hour or so.

Wor Lass used to do Kayus from Young Fathers’ hair. He still shows up at family BBQs and things and is a general friend of the family.

i took her wider point to be that the mercuries should be focusing more on stuff that isn’t being supported by the brits otherwise what’s the point?*

*with the plot twist being that they’re all utterly meaningless and are just tools to promote more sales

FWIW these get my vote…

Yeah I agree with that although as someone else said, having a token huge act draws more publicity and then the smaller acts should hopefully benefit.

aye i was initially sceptical of that but this seems to back it up convincingly

Sault - Black Is, got to be in with a shout of a nomination; hugely politically on point, deserving of a wider audience and most importantly a really great album.

Are they going to reveal them slowly on 6music like always?

Just announce them all at once ffs

Er…might be some people recording Lauren Laverne’s show to listen to in full when they get home?

Would be very happy if Dua Lipa takes it tbh. A big pop album is just as deserving as anything else.

She’s from London so that will help her chances (Young Fathers were the last winners not from there I think) - but also she’s commercially successful enough that they might feel she doesn’t need the award
