2020 Vegan / Plant Based Thread 🌾πŸ₯‘πŸ†πŸ₯¦πŸŒ½πŸ₯•πŸ§…πŸ§„

A new thread for a new year and maybe some new vegans or plant based eaters or anyone who is just curious.

Out of morbid curiosity I tried the new KFC vegan burger earlier today. Felt a bit grubby going there but the burger was…fine. Nothing to really set it apart from a supermarket version (like the Tesco Wicked Kitchen southern fried chicken fillet) but wasn’t terrible, just bland. Dull / 10 would eat again if stuck at a service station or something.

Pretty excited to try the M&S Plant Kitchen kiev later this month!

Miss working in a store with a good size plant kitchen range.

Quite excited about the greggs vegan steak bake, though their sausage rolls are tasty but toooo salty omg. Have been dramatically reducing salt so it may just be my new dull tastes but I’ll try that asap

Was going to get one to try today but the Greggs by the KFC drive through won’t have them until January 16th. OUTRAGEOUS.

Love the sausage roll but exclusively while hungover. Think the saltiness / weird gravy fuzzy mouth after effect puts me off usually.

What do people have as their go to vegan snacks please? I have nuts and berries but other healthy ish suggestions.

The KFC vegan burger is surely the answer to a problem no one was asking.

Dunno, KFC seems particular heinous, doubt I’ll ever bother.

I am looking forward to chicken Kievs I think I saw someone doing those. I need to remember where they are, one of the supermarkets

Alright Piers

Weirdly they don’t even seem that committed to it, the box says something like β€œ100% vegan, unless you add something that isn’t vegan to it” and they make it clear everywhere that their chips aren’t suitable for vegans (it’s just potato m8 wtf). Your option for a side option is a Pepsi, except Diet Pepsi which also isn’t suitable.

Half arsed / 10.

Assume that must be chips cooked in the same fryers as the chicken or something then.

When I worked at McDonald’s that used to happen when we were busy even though people weren’t supposed to do it

Lots of hearty looking vegan recipes here :grinning::

-ricecakes with chocolate or pb
-homemade crisps (just use a peeler to slice slice veg including potato and bake, its really good)
-cherry tomatoes
-cucumber/carrot sticks and hummus
-diced sweet potato steam fried with a bit of sugar (search up daigakuimo recipes)

Crisps and chocolate bars too

Been making my own seitan these past few months… Like steaming seitan and rice… Then frying it together with peas and spinach/cabbage every night then repeating that process again. Don’t follow a recipe for the seitan and it’s β€˜fine’ but anyone got a go to recipe they use? Or bits they’d always put in the seitan mix which may not be obvious? Sometimes I’ll have a jar of crappy sauce but trying to pare things back a bit.

Having this for dinner also :+1:

Not tried before. Felt quite baller going into the M&S food section for the first time in years.

Got these muthas tonight. Dickhead name but you never know…

I clearly didn’t read the whole OP where you mentioned the Kiev things

Really?

Yep! Suspect it’s something in the filtering / clarifying like with some beers but :man_shrugging:t2:

Had the new M&S Plant Kitchen pizza tonight - the round one, not the rectangular bastard.

Wouldn’t recommend it, the three β€œcheeses” were pretty  Shame because the base is nice enough.

Bookmarked this thread. Been 95% veggie this past year and now gonna take the step and cut all meat entirely, and look to replace other animal stuff where possible.

Big shout out to the Plant Kitchen coleslaw which is identical to the normal stuff.

Last couple of months I’ve done 6 vegan days to 1 vegetarian day (usually pizza tbh). Nut and various other allergies make full vegan a bit tricky. All the new meatless burger things have coconut oil in but tbh I’m not keen on processed substitutes anyway.

Thinking of doing 5 vegan days/2 vegetarian days a week going forward and see how I feel health and general relationship to food wise.
