Lovely to see some of the rolling threads already starting
Wondering what ideas people have for new ongoing threads or new things people can join in with
I’m really keen to do a proper mega poll of the best albums of the quarter century to mark 25 years of DiS. Be curious how we even begin to create a long list. I was thinking of doing my own list of 50 essential albums from 2000-2024 (it’ll probably end up being 200 if I can’t cut it down)
We could also re-litigate the best albums of each year and try to surface some lesser known gems? Could do a week making a shortlist and a week voting? Would be 50 weeks worth of fun. Although probably need to find a simple way of doing it so it isn’t lots of work for anyone
Be curious of your thoughts and other ideas you have
I’ll try a noise, experimental, industrial one. I’m pretty new to it all but the DIY nature of it all; the gigs, labels, spaces, community, art have been really inspiring this last year.
25 things ahead of their time that kinda vanished (featuring PopEx, Muxtape, eMusic)
25 hyped things that were a massive flop (starring Apple Vision Pro, Microsoft Zune, Apple Ping, MP3 Discmans, and Google Wave/Plus)
I’m thinking a lot about the music services and tools of the future and the things that vanished that we could learn from or treat as cautionary tales
Here’s a bit about my plans for the year ahead (if you can’t afford to pay for a sub please drop me a DM and I’ll happily upgrade your account as a few users are kindly paying it forward)
50 albums of the century seems like a project that could keep me busy all year. Still trying to catch up on the 2010s when I had kids instead of music.
For anyone who doesn’t like reading, I’ve done a little YouTube ramble about the plan for the year ahead. Would love to hear your ideas for guests - either experts or pioneering musicians.
Ps this is my first time ever making a YouTube video and I had only really planned to record the audio but filmed it and decided to brace uploading it
