Spurs will finish top half/pushing for Europe. Reckon it’ll be a slow start with the change of system and new signings and everyone will be calling for De Zerbi to be sacked but it’ll click and we’ll look better. All the promoted sides to be utter dog shit and the likes of Sunderland will struggle with balancing Europe and the league but will be less dog shit. Everyone will be dog shit actually and Arsenal will default it due to having the least upheaval. Don’t know what Liverpool will be like but reckon Chelsea have enough in their 100 man squad to fumble something that works well enough.

Am I missing something with basically everyone thinking that BlueCo will do well? Done their classic of spending about 500m on a bunch of U23s I’ve never heard of, and Alonso might be an alright manager, for a team with a proper direction and shit, but there’s zero evidence that whatever they’ve been trying to do there is about to click, is there?

I think that out of the pack of new managers Alonso comes with the Bayer Leverkusen unbeaten* season thing & the general aura of someone to believe in. Plus Chelsea have about 300 players to choose from

Iraola is the one with the Premier League experience though … just don’t think he’s well suited to the squad/club

Probably would have been more fun if they’d each gone to the other club

Don’t buy it. The most likely thing is at Chelsea he’ll be a stubborn system manager in way over his head trying to fit their 60 first team players into a coherent team while keeping everyone happy.

I’m not sure anything he’s shown suggests he’s a particularly good fit for the job at hand, but at least he’s not Rosenior or Potter, I guess.

Core of the squad comfortably finished top four a couple of years back. Key players like Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer have had a summer off. Alonso probably a very good manager.

Most crucial thing is the lack of European football. Don’t think things will open up for them like the Conte 2016-17 title, but definitely an opportunity to make big gains on Man Utd, City, Liverpool sides with such question marks. Look at Carrick and Man Utd - half a season on easy mode was enough to cruise to 3rd.
