You must be a very, very tolerant person. An example to us all.

The playlist actively stops me from buying or even streaming stuff because I get too sick of it. Couldn’t listen to LDR for ages after hearing Video Games every 20 minutes for what seemed like years.

I haven’t casually listened to 6music in over a a decade, apart from actively listening online to Gideon Coe and Tom Ravenscroft, but it really is kind of amazing how many DJs have retained their jobs for such a long time. Pretty much everybody people are talking about in this thread was on the station in 2010. Not sure what my point is, exactly.

I can’t believe they are still overplaying stuff, though. I remember their relentless hammering of ā€˜One Life Stand’ by Hot Chip and some shit by Everything Everything I’ve thankfully forgotten the title of over 10 years ago basically drove me insane.

To be honest, MAH didn’t annoy me too much until I listened to her for hours at a time, so probably Liz Kershaw might go the same way. I guess in bursts of a few minutes from time to time most people will seem bearable.

I like MAH but she does have some vocal tics which become annoying after a while - she can never say that a track is by ā€˜A and B’ it’s always by ā€˜A working with B’ or ā€˜A in collaboration with B’. Hear that once and it’s fine, hear it 10 or 15 times and it starts to grate.

Everything about Kershaw is annoying- she just sounds like a local radio DJ (which she is). She has almost zero knowledge of or judgement about music so I have no idea what she is doing on 6. MAH is definitely incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about music so I can forgive her her quirks.

I’m pathologically intolerant of inane radio DJ chatter - probably from when my housemate insisted on having radio 1 on in the car for the entire hour long commute to a placement in uni every morning for 8 weeks. Chris Moyles is the literal antichrist.

It does mean that I find even well meaning folk like Shaun Keavney and Mark Radcliffe really difficult to put up with. Much prefer the specialist stuff in the evenings to the daytime radio playlistathon.

Iggy Pop, Tom Ravenscroft, Giles Peterson, Nimone are all pretty great though… and as breakfast / daytime stuff goes Lauren and MAH are far better than anything else I’ve encountered.

Really enjoy Gilles Peterson’s show for his music choices more than his presence. Find that as I approach 40 my taste has rapidly become focused in on the kind of music that means if someone asks for a short answer for what music I like I can just shorthand Gilles Peterson whereas ten years earlier I’d have cited Glastonbury and ten years before that I’d have said NME.

I think Benji-B would be a good fit for 6 Music.

Love his show on R1, I know that timings don’t really mean anything in the age of the internet but it really feels unjust having him on in the graveyard shift (and only for 2 hrs to boot).

What sort of stuff does he play?

Techno, electro, hip hop, quite a range. He appears to be loving Juliana Barwick at the moment too so ticks a lot of my boxes.

Sounds good!

Why isn’t Annie Nightingale on 6? Surely she would be a perfect fit.

There’s been a bizarre stasis in the DJ roster at 6music. They’ve reshuffled from time to time but I think I’m right in saying that all of the regular shows are hosted by people who have been on the station since at least 2012 (when MAH joined). That’s extraordinary I think.

Nothing against any of the current people (except Liz Kershaw) but they could do with a refresh. Some of the people that they have filling in like Vic Galloway are a lot better than regulars like Lamacq.

They could also definitely do with a couple more non-white DJs- at present they have only 5 hours of airtime per week (Craig Charles and Don Letts). I think Nihal has been excellent when he’s filled in and would be a great fit for a regular programme. He’s an excellent broadcaster and a true music fan.

Think she stepped down from broadcasting a while back, she is 80 years old tbf.

Edit my bad she still does Wednesday nights on R1. Fair play!

He usually puts the whole playlist on his Instagram page. Just listening to this weeks now. It’s great for stuff like grime and drill that I only really dabble in - gives a nice overview of that type of stuff.

I think this is how I feel about most of the presenters on 6 Music. Objectively not brilliant broadcasters but I know they’re going to play stuff I’ll probably like so it’s worth sticking with them.

ā€˜Looked in’ makes it sound like it’s against your will. Horrible term.
