Lammo’s there for life, unfortunately. Hopefully he’ll get shunted from the drive time slot though eventually, but can see him getting him some 90’s nostalgia slot a couple evenings a week or something, or on a weekend perhaps

A 90s nostalgia show on Radio 2 would surely suit him. We must have reached the point where ‘Sounds of the 90s’ is a thing on Sunday evenings on Radio 2 musn’t we?

Yup. He’ll regale listeners with tales of how he used to go to these things called “gigs” in these tiny venues…up to 150 a year !!

Sounds of the 90’s is already a thing on R2. Fearne Cotton Presents!

Get Lamo in!

Is there a minimal techno show on 6Music? There should be a minimal techno show on 6Music, even if it was just on a Sunday afternoon or something.

I’ve already got pretty bored of listening to people reminisce about going to see The Fall in the 80s, and their musical equivalents.

Reckon 12:30-1:30 is the undisputable best time to listen to 6, get the last bit of Hobbs and the playlist-free gold sounds is usually a winner. Then promptly switch off before Keavo gets annoying. Been listening occasionally while cooking dinner but Lamaq is utterly unbearable isn’t he

I find that it’s definitely worth eating a bit later if you can have the first half hour of Riley on while you cook rather than the last half hour of Lamacq.

Or talking about being in the Fall in the 1980s.

To be fair to Marc Riley, he was once moaning about a band being late on stage and someone texted in to say they remembered this happening fairly regularly with the Fall and he laughed at himself.

To be fair to Riley he doesn’t talk about The Fall that much. If I’d played on Hex Enduction Hour and written Container Drivers I’d never shut up about it.

The playlist is doing my head in. That Arlo Parks song that sounds exactly like Dido is played every ten minutes. I would normally be completely indifferent to music like that but I am starting to develop homicidal feelings towards it now.

Yup, that song is doing my head in. The hyperbole around her album is utterly baffling.

I’ve no problem with stations getting excited about new artists but whether it’s Arlo Parks, Sports Team or Billy Nomates, 6 Music discourse seems to insist they’re the only ones that ever existed, let alone mattered.

Only listened to about 25 minutes in total today, over two shows, and I’ve heard Sunblind by Fleet Foxes twice. It’s a great song but it’s been entirely ruined for me, it’s literally unescapable.

Arlo Shah.

They did the same to Nadine Shah. After hearing the first single from her album every 30 mins for months, I had zero interest in listening to said album and her as an artist.
Might it not be counter productive for the artists playing them so frequently?

I have a theory about her over-exposure on 6music but I’m going to have to be very careful how I express it. I think 6music (like the rest of the BBC) is probably run by lots of nice white middle class people from the Home Counties. I don’t think they know much about black music and they are perhaps a bit scared of some of it, but I think they desperately and genuinely want the station to be more diverse. Someone like Arlo Parks is like a gift to them - a black artist who is definitely not going to frighten the horses or upset anyone. They understand her because she went to the same type of school as them and speaks like they do. I’m not having a go at her - she has an absolute right to make whatever music she wants and shouldn’t be constrained by her race - I just think what she is doing is very bland and MOR and I just don’t see why it is on 6music.

It’s a laudable aim to have a more diverse playlist but I think you need to listen to what the music actually sounds like. It was good recently when they play listed Tierra Whack, but very overdue.

I used to think similar about him but then his last album was genuinely really great, so I reckon they were proved right on that one.

Fair enough - think I prefer Arlo Parks
