Has anyone said how long this insanity is going to go on for?

I’ve heard Big Thief three times today and Bon Iver twice in the same hour. You’d think they could shuffle the “Subdued Playlist” a little more effectively.

Vibe is definitely back to normal now, almost oddly so given what it was earlier. Everybody Loves the Sunshine was just on.

Gideon Coe also played Ocean Breathes Salty by Modest Mouse (“you wasted life, why wouldn’t you waste death, you wasted life, why wouldn’t you waste the afterlife”) Probably just a coincidence, would love it if that’s a bit of subtle subversion from him though.

Someone Great is on now, or as it’s been adapted for Prince Philip “when someone has gone”

Nice.

And fair dues to Gary Crowley - that was a really well structured and presented intro bit, all things considered.

I was listening to a very subdued 1Xtra show (Jerimiah Assiyama (sp?)) earlier that featured a load of slow jams and a smooth and slow remix of Hotline Bling that I thought was hilariously out of keeping with the sombre tone.

Not chuffed that the 6Music not seems booked.

The last.fm scrobbles are back in play, though.

Regularly need these cos I invariably find the ‘track now playing/tracks just played’ bit absolutely undiscoverable via the BBC apps/sites.

There was a track played early on in the Ambient Focus mix they threw up over the weekend 9 or 10 pm on Fri or Sat. Had a rising/walking bassline reminiscent of Hey Joe by Hendrix (and others). Liked it. Neither of those sites were updating though.

Any ideas what it might have been?

One of these, I suppose.

Or not. Just listened to YouTube clips of each track. No joy. Must’ve been Saturday.

I need to disagree with this take.

I know the track you mean. It was just after they played Caribou then Four Tet at about 3.30pm ish, and I thought that it sounded like Hey Joe too.

Boom! After working through about 50 YouTube vids. Just found it.

Was the instrumental of Ibtihaj by Rapsody (ft D’Angelo & GZA).

Well worth the search.

Oh right. The track in my head was Jai Paul’s Do You Love Her Now?

A more subtle detection, that.

Turns out the sample is from this:

Which itself is a brilliant cover version of the more well known and somewhat cheesy:

Layers upon layers. Lovely stuff.

90s day much more to my liking than 80s and pop days.

But why do they always censor the arse at the end of Weekender? (But other than that all 12 minutes of weekender first thing in the morning can’t be sniffed at)

Thanks for the tip, just tuned in for the start of The Boy is Mine, one of my favourite tracks of the 90s!

It’s weird, had such a narrow, blinkered view of music in the 90s where I really only thought I liked britpop and indie/rock, yet now I have so little nostalgia for that stuff I liked then but loads of pop and R&B I disliked at the time really delights me now.

Bit annoying Prince Phillip couldn’t hold on another week and bow out just before Lamacq was due to come on for 90s day.
