It’s inexplicable that she keeps that slot when some of their fill-in people like Nihal, Vic Galloway etc are so good but don’t get a regular gig.

I still think Gideon Coe should be on mid-morning.

So you’re basically okay with it as long as you don’t have to listen to any women?

It’s ok to not rate one particular female dj (especially if it’s Liz Kershaw). When you single out the only two female DJs on during the day and say, without any real explanation, that they are so unlistenable you are going to switch channels, even though all of the other (male) DJs are ok it looks a bit sus.

‘Earnest’ is spot on.
I remember one show where she referred to Roots Manuva with so much reverence you would have thought he’d cured cancer whilst swimming the Atlantic.
And when she inexplicably laughs…
But she plays great music and seems a genuinely good sort…

I remember when he did the mid morning slot when 6 first started and hearing him play the Afghan Whigs thinking it unbelievable that daytime radio would ever play artists like that.

6 ain’t perfect but SO much better than the Simon Bates et al era that preceded it.

Just in case people were worried Lamacq was obsessed with the past… oh

Fair play to him for keeping the plates spinning. There’s some garbage on there though it has to be said

I listened the other morning and the music was a bit better than I remember from Saturday mornings.

lamacq’s entire show is just the aural equivalent of the worst thread’s on the music board

I discovered so much great new stuff on his morning show. I guess there weren’t that many people listening as you could pretty guarantee if you wrote in he would read it out on air. It was like a little club. His show got me massively into My Morning Jacket, and I missed Jim James’ acoustic set he did for the show, and his Producer very kindly sent it to me on a minidisc.

There are people on those message boards who genuinely believe that the 90’s was the best decade for music. Bless them.

It probably is for me. Due to the sheer volume of amazing electronic music produced. The development from acid house through progressive house to trance and techno. Alongside some great alterrnative music from some of my favourite bands. Is that ok or do I need to leave the music boards ?

Nah, up to you. I’m thinking more of a focus on guitar music, it’s pretty hard to argue to anyone who was around in the 60’s and 70’s that the music of the 90’s was ‘better’.

but surely you can understand a fondness or preference for the decade that you came of age ? I was 15 in 1990 so it was a huge decade for me. I like some stuff from the 60’s 70’s etc but it doesn’t compare to the decade of my youth.

Honestly really enjoyed Xfm in the 1999-2001ish era. When Geldof took over stuff changed but the good stuff was really excellent. Can’t recall who the breakfast guy was, some standup, but he did a good show and I remember hearing a lot of tracks and music I didn’t know.

Got it:
Dislike one female DJ, you’re ok that’s just an opinion.
Dislike two female DJ’s, only explanation is that you are a misogynistic scum bag , who must be called out and taken down.

Some incredible replies to this.

I used to wonder how she handled having a brother with such toxic issues around his ex (suspended sentence for it I think) but I guess she is pretty toxic herself.

yes was disappointed about AK being a knob. Fond memories of his show back to back with Peel’s in the 90’s, Which is of course the best decade for music @m25

Yeah I liked his show too. Recall being fairly gutted when it was reported.
