So is this stuff public domain worldwide or just in the US?

If I understand right, this is US-specific…other countries use the death of the author + 70 years, US uses date of publication + 95 years.

The reason it’s a big deal is that the US extended its term a while ago, as mentioned in the article (under, of all things, the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act).
