I didnāt see this specific incident, but the thing is, with video replays youāre still reliant on one manās judgement. Itās not unusual for two pundits to look at the same incident half a dozen times and not be able to agree.
And how do you bring it in? Do you bring it in for every decision or just penalties? How do you use them? Do you have to wait for a break in play? If not, whatās to stop a team using a review tactically to stop a counter-attack by their opponent. Do you give each team 3 reviews per half as in Cricket or Tennis and if a review is successful they keep it? Or is it at the refereeās discretion to review decisions they are unsure of?
In all other sports, video replays are used to determine an outcome based on definite outcomes like grounding the ball for a try in Rugby, the ball landing in or out in Tennis, whether the ball pitched outside leg stump in Cricket. So many decisions in football are down to judgement and interpretation, I really donāt think video replays are going to help stop controversy as much as some believe.
