Also really want to read more GRRM stuff - does anyone have any recommendations?

The first GRRM thing I ever read was The Hedge Knight, the first Dunk & Egg story, in the Legends collection, short stories set in the universes of famous fantasy writers. I got it as a present as a kid and it was my favourite thing in there by far (even better than the Terry Pratchett one, which is why I’d been given it). But I never really twigged that it was part of something bigger or bothered to follow it up… until years later GoT came out and I got hold of the books - and then it took me a while reading it to suddenly twig that it was the same world as The Hedge Knight. I should really read the rest of the Dunk & Egg stuff.

Really want GRRM to copy the TV series exactly for the remainder of the books to wind everyone up.

Would deffo be the easiest, and possibly only, way for him to complete them :+1:

I have Rogues and got bogged down. I can’t recall if it has one of these stories. I’ve read A Knight if the Seven Kindoms (actually read the fist tale in the Marvel trade version first) but I know there are 3 others centring around female Targaryens that are in other collections (one in Rogues maybe?)

NNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERDDDSSSSS!!

(I will start reading the books if and when the series has been released in full. like fuck am i getting invested in it otherwise)

I reckon Jaime and Cersei might end differently in the books. The show barely touched on the valonquar prophecy, but it’s a big thing in the real story.

The vampire on steamboat one is called Fevre Dream, and it’s really good (Disclaimer: I haven’t read it for twenty years or so). Of the other ones I’ve read, Tuf Voyaging is amiable lightweight SF, and The Armageddon Rag is awful. There’s a good novella called The Skin Trade about werewolves that is probably in one of his doorstep anthologies.

That was a film and had no vampires or steam boats

Wild Cards has always come up a lot, although not sure how many, if any, of the stuff he wrote, as I believe he was mainly an editor

I’m with Smee and DingDong- will almost certainly read the books if they ever get completed and I hope they do exactly what the TV show does.

In fact, I hope the next book is the last one and it’s literally just this series in words. Maybe some pictures to save time.

The last two books are actually sticker albums, using pictures from TV show with original captions from GRRM.

Then, just as she’d repeatedly said she would, Daenerys and Drogon took to the skies above King’s Landing and began destroying the city. Down below, Jon and Davos looked at each other. ā€œWhat’s she doing?ā€ asked Jon.
ā€œShe’s burning the city and everyone in it,ā€ replied Davos.
ā€œAh,ā€ said Jon, ā€œshe has mentioned that a couple of times, yeah.ā€

Seeing Greyworm attack Lannister soldiers in a rage, Jon remembered films like Man on Fire and John Wick where people go on a killing spree when their newly found emotional connection to the world is threatened or killed and thought ā€œyeah, that’s not that strange really is itā€.

Have you ever seen that Falling Down film? Jon asked.
ā€œNo, I know what it’s about though,ā€ Ser Davos replied.

Drogon continued to rain fire down on Kings Landing. Buildings collapsed beneath the barrage of flame. Anything not crushed by the force was consumed in the following scorch. The air was thick with sulphur and screaming. Beneath a bed in their home, a woman held her child. Recognising their certain doom, she pulled her daughter close and whispered in her ear ā€œCould have had 10 episodes but the lazy writers turned it downā€

These all need more ā€œfiery peppersā€ and ā€œnipples on a breastplateā€

out of the smoke and ash and death, miraculously, a white horse appeared, and approached Arya. ā€˜This season has been nothing but fan fiction’, it whinnyed softly, and as they rode together out of the city’s devastation it gently explained how Bran warged through time to bury a dragon in The Wall
