Has anyone played Divinity Original Sin? I was quite taken with the idea of a top down Baldurs Gate style RPG, but it is so fiddly and unhelpful that it is driving me mad. Probably about seven or eight hours in and I’m still wandering round the village at the beginning. Is it worth sticking with?

anyone else getting F1 2018?

i promised myself that i wouldn’t pre-order it as 2017’s multiplayer had game ruining bugs in it (e.g. safety car is broken) and i wanted to confirm that it actually worked before buying, so obviously i cracked and it’s due to arrive today. so far i’ve heard that the virtual safety car is broken, so all bodes well so far

I believe @Bamnan has played this and might have some pro-tips to share?

I really liked it but yeah it can be a bit fiddly and obscure. What’s causing you the issue? Figuring out where to go or the combat? There’s a lot of little tiny levers to pull to open stuff in that game.

I really loved the character and humour of it though and the combat is really tactical and satisfying with all the different elemental synergies and things.

Worth sticking with if you’re enjoying the tone but I wouldn’t say the game changes a huge amount thematically or in terms of the types of quests/fights you have

yes, it’s awesome

cheers for the advice. I think I’m just taking longer than usual to get to grips with all the various systems. I definitely need to get more involved with the elemental parts of combat. Just hitting orcs with sharp pointy things is not doing me any good at the moment. Apart from that, inventory management feels like a pain, and I can’t help but think I’m missing something obvious that’ll make it easier. The quest log isn’t much help either. I’m all for not being led through a game by the nose, but a little bit of hand holding wouldn’t go amiss sometimes.

I will persevere for a bit longer - so many people say it’s so good there must be something there.

think you have to play it at a pretty leisurely pace and be willing to tinker around in menus a fair bit. Maybe you’re not in the right mood for that sort of game? Or maybe you just don’t like it which is of course totally fine

you’ll definitely need to get used to the elemental systems and their buffs/debuffs (eg. don’t use fire on a fire enemy cos it, uhhh, heals them). it helps a huuuuge amount. no shame in googling when you’re stuck on something like needing a helping hand with a quest if you helps you progress. had to do that a few times when quest objectives were a bit too obtuse.

hmm, better not then

Think the mood thing is a good shout. I have bit of a games backlog and I was looking for something to burn through to get on to the next game. Might shelve this one for a couple of weeks and pick off some of the quicker stuff in my library instead.

this is… definitely not the game for that

AMAZING.

so it would seem. Soma it is then.

that’s a game i tried 3 times and then gave up on. wish i’d played it on the story mode where you don’t take damage from baddies. i ended up watching Cry’s playthrough on Youtube. turns out i was maybe only 2 hours away from finishing it. whoops! still, i enjoyed watching him play it a lot. the ending is devastating. enjoy!

it’s also probably the best: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE HUMAN??!?!?!?!?! story gaming has managed to pull off.

Surprised it’s taken this long for a GoT game to appear, putting aside the Telltale rubbish. Almost tailor made for it.

there’s been a whole bunch. i remember playing one i’ll just refer to as ‘bad skyrim’
