A house with a name

Back when I lived with my band mates in uni we used to live in THOR (The House Of Rock).

I would like for us to call our house a portmanteau of our surnames considering that I sacrificed my name to the patriarchy. The name isn’t this but it evokes a feeling similar to eg Borrowers Burrow.

Tyrant that he is, @wasted will not allow it.

Our house had some wooden name plaque on it when we bought it. Not official or on any records or anything. I tore it off when I painted the outside wall, probably cursing the house for all eternity.

i have an instagram project mapping out all the local original house names. Did about 10 posts and then forgot about it. Must restart it, but I can’t remember how to log in and I’ve since changed my number so the reset password thing doesn’t work.

Well I’ve been through the desert on a house with a name, it felt good to get out of the rain

the ancestral home of one side of my Spanish family is called ‘Casa do Capador’. A Capador was a special type of ‘vet’ who used to specialise in castrating animals.

So, yeah, House of the Castrator.

Penistone is more in the right ballpark (oo er)

Grew up in a bungalow, imaginatively named ‘The Bungalow’.

My parents house was Mill Cottage, it was opposite The Old Mill and was where the millers lived once upon a time. Is a small village where all the houses were named.

I guess anyone can make a house what they want, but how do you make it official? Can you record it with the Land Registry… or the post office or something?

Dunroamin is the classic house name pun isn’t it? Only ever realised because in Discworld the gods lived in Dunmanifestin.

Shangri-La is popular too. Very bad name for a house imo

My sister in law lived in a house called Brian. The previous owners named it and she found it most amusing, as did we

Nice!

I also like those lines of Victorian (?) houses where every house has a name above the front porch.

There’s a bunch of them near me opposite the park, so classy

My parents house is named after John Clare’s whimsical description of a Ladybird.

Yep.

A friend of mine changed the name of their home from ‘Spring Cottage’ to ‘Acid House’. Pretty good.

Moved into a house that is called “Our House” but in a different language. Dint think it’s official, it’s just a normal urban Victorian house.

My parents live in a house called Plum Tree Cottage. It is one of three with the same name in a 2 mile radius so they often get parcels for other people.

Nothing will ever top Ronald and Beverley Dixon’s house in Brookside: Casa Bevron.

I can’t find any evidence of this, but when I was growing up I’m CERTAIN there was one on a nearby street called Golden Showers
