thanks. yeah the badminton’s really relaxed, just play with my girlfriend and could happily do it before/after a middle distance run so I don’t think that’s an issue. Will probably have to cut out one of my football teams but reckon I’ll wait for the turn of the year (4 months out from the marathon) before doing so

Just a quick point on this one - don’t forget that this is AggPass’s first marathon - it’s unlikely that his body will be in a position, even right before he starts tapering, of being able to run every day of the week.

That kind of repeated impact exercise takes more than six months to build up to, and it is not necessary for a first marathon.

Oh, for sure. I was just giving an example of how I switched up my training. Obviously take my actual training with a pinch of salt and look more at the principles against the training plan you’re working against… I was peaking at over 200 miles a month, which is entirely unnecessary for a 4 hour or get-you-round marathon!

hi guys - i think i already know the answer to this but thought i’d get a second opinion -

i have FINALLY got the gf to start running, she has started on couch to 5k -

i’m doing the runs with her to give her a bit of encouragement, where i am doing run / walk at her pace (which is slow), and i’m also doing my runs, either at lunch times or after the run i have done with her (effectively using her run as a warm up) - that should be fine shouldn’t it? my weekly milage is going to shoot up a bit after a few weeks (which is going slowing up anyway as i’m training for my first 10k for a while) - but these extra runs are going to be a good minute and a half / 2 minutes slower per km than my general pace - so i should be able to cope with the extra kms yeah? i’m not going to end up over training like this am i?

Couch 2 5K is so gradual that doing it at a very, very easy pace will be fine, if you can maintain your form when running, i.e. don’t get sloppy and lazy.

good - thats what i thought

my form is already sloppy and lazy i imagine so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Got my London Marathon ballot rejection magazine in the post tonight.

:disappointed:

On the plus side, the jacket thing is very nice…

In the post? That’s weird, have they emailed as well? I’ve not heard anything yet.

Yeah, it’s done by post. They’re being sent out this week. There are two magazines: one for if you are successful, and one for if you are not.

Safe, cheers.

Didn’t get a place either. Can’t pretend I’m not a tiny bit relieved…

Nice jacket though, right?

Sounds like a couch to 5k might be the way to go then.

Is there a parkrun near you? They

are usually very supportive of new runners and some offer C25K coaching. Plus there are plenty of other people in a similar position to you.

Jacket?

Get that couch to 5k app innit, I honestly don’t think I’ve known anyone with less willingness to participate in sport/get-active than my younger sister and it worked a treat for her.

Couch to 5k was my way in too, and I just did a half marathon!

(And have totally fucked up my foot it appears, limping like a right wally today).

The rejection magazine comes with a running jacket/top.

Mine didn’t!

Ah, I think you had to check the option when you registered - it’s because I agreed to let them donate my entry fee to charity if I didn’t get in.
