Continued my 2018 streak of improving every week in the parkrun - took 1 second off my previous time on Saturday… still over 1 minute off my pb and still only managing to get out for 1 run a week. When is it okay to accept that your best is behind you?

Not sure how old you are, buy have you heard of/looked at WAVA? If you’re aging it gives you a way of comparing times with those you ran when younger.

I ran my first half marathon in 2015, three months after tearing my achilles and spraining my ankle, and with minimal training.

It’s still my PB…

Mine was 1:38 at the North London half with little to no training and hungover as sin. I think the better prepared I am the worse I do.

Aye, think my 10k PB was run with a stress fracture in my foot. I had to walk for a bit during mile 5 because of it.

Oh yeah, my 10k PB was done off no trianing (albeit when I was playing a lot of 5-a-side), and I walked for about 750m at around 8km because I completely mis-judged the pace at the beginning.

I’d never get close to that 43 minutes now…

ha, we’re all aging aren’t we. but i wouldn’t say i was aging.
one of the joys of long distance running is that a lot of people seem to improve as they get older.

there might be something to that. my 1/2m pb was at hackney last year which was the morning after the Joshua/Klitschko fight, which we went out to watch and 'cos it was so exciting all self control went out the window.

Definitely getting there, slowly…

Most of the new Hookworms album is 10/10 running music

19km tomorrow :+1:

Runners of DiS unite.

Did a 19 miler on Thursday. Felt great doing it, until the last mile. It’s amazing how proper re-fueling during the run helps! 10 mile run yesterday too.
With the weather going to be rubbish this week (20cm snow predicted) I think I’ll take a week off the longs runs and get a few shorter, quicker jogs under my belt.

Big Half this weekend. Think my training has been on point, so should be OK. Hopefully this grim weather will have passed.

Unfortunately, I’ve been stuck in the Orange Zone, whilst my two running buddies are in Green. So I’m standing around, by myself for an hour or so, beforehand. Any other DiSers doing it and want to meet up for awkward, stilted conversation?

I’m in the same boat too, so yeah!

I’ve not done more than 17.5k recently in prep for the half this weekend. Even that was a couple of weeks ago. Should be fiiiinnnee, right?

Yeah, I didn’t run more than that training for Llanelli and was fine. The course wasn’t that much flatter than the routes I’d been taking on those runs.

You’ll get round, that’s pretty much what I did for my first half. I was hurting at the 10 mile mark but I made it. Put in a bit more practice this time, but it’s been 2 weeks since a really long run (12 miles). A few 10-14ks since then.

Yeah, if you’ve got a decent base, then a longest run of about 18-19k is fine.

My training has slacked off a bit over the past week or too, but as it’s the taper period, I’m not too worried.

I’m running home tonight, slowly (13K) and then one more slow, short run (5k) on thursday or friday.
