First half marathon of the year/since last June yesterday. Was alright, but after 15k I was really feeling it (in a bad way)

1:49:45, which I’m ok with

Can’t really walk today

My PB is 1:37:28 and I strongly doubt i’ll ever get near that in this lifetime again

Also ran a half yesterday (but not my first of the year). I’m not even close to PB (1:50) pace at the moment, but I’ve given up caring. We threw in some trails to make it more interesting, but yeah, the last couple of miles, despite being mostly downhill, were a slog.

If I can get round the Richmond marathon at the end of May in under 4.5 hours I’ll be ecstatic.

Have run new 5k and half marathon PBs this year. Want to knock off a 10k too before football comes back and running drops off, obviously not doing a full marathon solo because fuck that.

I will need to start running ultras to ever set a PB again.

I was such a wreck after 21.1km yesterday, I can’t imagine doubling it ever

I’m back baby!

After an enforced 11 days off I started the week with a couple of 8ks but just nailed my 10k PB.

Got a foam roller, Garmin, compression shorts and new shoes over the break so I’ll put it down to them.

Strava is so fucking shit at accurately measuring distance, it’s quite annoying. I’ve got a 5k mapped out which I do regularly so I can monitor my progress and each time is varies in telling me how far I’ve run. Are GPS watches better for this? The other day the signal jumped all over the place (the lines to the left of the park) which meant it thinks I did a bigger distance in a shorter time and messed up my PBs and that

Yes. The garmin watch I have now just does straight lines, no wiggly bits and returns the same distance over two runs. Plus it is good to track your speed as you go along etc

Interesting, thanks. Straight lines that still follow roads/paths presumably?

Within a couple of metres/not so it affects the distance.

Hoo boy they’re pretty spenny aren’t they? Even the basic one

Yeah, £130ish

I can probably live with the annoyance and inaccuracy of my phone for that price tbf :upside_down_face:

Anyone signed up for any autumn races? I applied for the Yorkshire marathon in October, hopefully that’ll be safe by then. My current 5k pace is 90 seconds slower per mile than my last marathon pace 3 years ago so got a lot of work to do.

Could I use my Wahoo? That’s basically a GPS. Wonder if that would be more or less accurate

If you are using your phone/strava to track runs, make sure that it’s properly locked on at the start. If you don’t do that, then it can ping all over the place throughout the whole run.

Even if you do that, it will be less accurate than a GPS watch.

You can often find them on ebay for a decent price.

Have you double checked your phone location settings have Bluetooth and wi-fi scanning enabled?

Just checked one of mine from yesterday…

Yes, I usually check that on each run. Have been stung before and ended up with massive straight lines darting all over the place.

Think eBay is probably best, I literally just want the most basic of GPS functions and not interested in any smart or phone features.
