oh god yes

few?

Yeah probably is this a lot of the time. Uneven cognitive profile with academic strengths but impairment in social skills and executive function pretty much is the profile for AS/HFA. Not being critical here, just raising awareness

if you’re clever enough to get a levels, you’re basically clever enough to become a PhD as long as you’re willing to put the time and effort in to achieving that. Throw in a bit of luck and perhaps some cunning there’s nothing else stopping you becoming a Professor

Yeah, that’s what I was getting at. Not dissing anyone (either autistic people or ruffers).

Don’t drag me into your nerd talk, Theo.

I’m no Gygax devotee. In fact I’ve never even heard of him.

Girl I knew at uni was thick as shit but managed to get onto a PhD in something hard sciency. Don’t know if she ever got her doctorate as I had to delete her off Facebook when she posted some angry bullshit about Muslims protesting against Peppa Pig

Autumn statements?

I work with some and sometimes it’s frustrating. But then again everyone’s thick about one topic or another.

Cunning/blackmail/extreme luck is required to get any money out of the Arts Council.

Does this include academically successful individuals who don’t understand ‘academic’ writing/ideologies?

If so, hi!

Naaaah you’ve got a good amount of common sense and stuff, although I’m guessing there’s a fair amount of countdowners who’re pretty brilliant at stuff like anagrams but can barely hold a two minute conversation?

More THiK0 than THAC0 amiright?!!

Actually thinking about it, most people can hold a conversation, although it might be a bit awkward and geeky. But about 30% won’t or aren’t able to adhere to social norms in doing so. That might be because they’re incredibly immature, don’t understand social norms because of Aspergers or the like, are extremely shy, very sheltered, or multiple reasons.

That said, most people I’d categorise thus aren’t necessarily academically gifted or even particularly intelligent (not to be a dickhead, but you get a lot of utterly moronic and repetitive conversations online between about 5 people in this category on a loop. Sample - 1: “Wigan scum” 2: “Man U scum” 1: “I’m not scum” 2: “yes you are hahaha” 3: “you’re both scum” 2: “NEVER” 1: “who are you ?” ad infinitum). But, yeah, some of them are great at anagramming, although not necessarily the top players there are.

Hi, academia is rl. You can’t fool me!
