acts you genuinely think should be more successful

not your wonky lofi fav, your obscure local legend

Just people who haven’t broken through in the way you’d expect - even though they really could appeal to loads more people

Press Club as my inspiration for this. 4 great indie punk albums, broadening their sound out without losing the drive, one of the best front people in the game. And yet they don’t seem to have moved above the rank of playing the second-smallest venues - their Glasgow gig a few years ago was barely half full at that

don’t think they’d be megastars but like … twice as big at least

Twilight sad.

Well comfortable playing arena support and fill the venue with sound and look comfy as fuck there

Can’t get past Brude level on their own

always gonna be a regional element too, find it hard to think of Twilight that way given they’re sell-out Barras level here

Maybe Fontaines are what they could be if they weren’t taciturn Scots and were just a little(/lot) more upbeat

The Tubs/Ex-Void

Constantly churning out really catchy, hook filled guitar pop. Wouldn’t expect them to be massive but see them playing tiny rooms

Me Rex.

Hooks a-plenty, some decent-sized supports with Los Camp and others, but last time I saw them in Glasgow was at McChuills in front of about 20 people.

Not ever going to be arena-fillers, but should be way more popular than they currently are.

Andrew Bird. Should be a household name.

Yeah saw them without having listened to them before at EOTR 2021 on a tiny stage in the afternoon and within a couple of songs me and my partner turned to each other like ‘what the fuck are these doing playing in this spot’ and assumed they’d be shooting up bills from then on

Lorde playing academies last tour was fucking mental.
Hope she gets the bag from the new album

yeah was so glad I got to see Legit Pop Star so up close, and with a proper choreographed stage show as well

Johnny Foreigner should def be the same level as Los Camp esp as they are much better and I’m not sure quite why they never took off with the same sort of fans in the same way. Maybe early stuff too noisy and not as poppy as you me dancing etc?

Probably Ditz for me. Absolutely tiny glasgow gig didn’t match up with their general catchiness and live show. I mean they’re never gonna be the strokes but I’d expect them to be filling a 200-400 person room.

Dunno what sorts ot rooms/attendances they are attracting elsewhere.

definitely more meta/ironic too - think LC have more obvious sincerity which makes them easier to become obsessed with (though JF still have this just a few layers deeper)

About that. They do well in France and Germany too

Besnard Lakes. With how big war on drugs became it shows there’s a market for that drawn out “epic” kind of rock, and besnard lakes have enough songs with genuine hooks in them to have crossed over.

Remember thinking that US Girls were gonna break through to St Vincent/Father John Misty level off the back of A Poem Unlimited

Perfume Genius too, was a bit sad to see the size of venues he’s playing on this tour. Hopefully the Charli Coachella shout out will give him a boost lol.

great shout. I saw them in a 100-cap venue and then missed them (holiday clash) at a different 100-cap venue years later - absolutely wild for their wall of sound

probs one of the great underrated guitar bands of their generation, no bad albums

Get the impression he’s doing ok but yeah he could basically be a modern day Paul Simon, has massive cross generational appeal

Other than starting out at the same time and touring together (I believe) I’ve never understood why they get lumped in together. Very different bands imo

but they both have two initials and love exclamation marks - what more do you want!
