Quite like Adam (and Joe), and that episode with Joe mentioned above just after his mum had passed was really something. But he had a few whoppers on in a row and I binned it off.

Listened to a couple when I had flu over Christmas. I remember really liking the Johnny Marr, Charlie Brooker and Nish Kumar ones. Then in the Dianne Morgan one they had a bit of a grumble about how everybody always offended and I thought aha, not for me.

Yeah Morgan came across surprisingly bland in that.

Yes! I thought the same thing. I rarely listen now, but I like Joe Cornish (and some of the other guests) so dip in now and again. But that… was weird.

Was on another podcast recenbtly, can’t think what it was, and I thought the same there. Almost sounded like it was a chore to have a show about them.

he just agrees wholeheartedly with whoever’s on tbh. I found this most obvious when he had Helen Lewis* and Zadie Smith** on in back to back episodes.

*yeah, yeah Helen, it totally is our duty to invite far right figureheads into our media and gently defeat them in the marketplace of ideas.

**too right Zadie, liberal culture does have to take a large part of the blame for prevalent attitudes to race and class.

Probably when you live all your life as a rich white guy you can afford to not really give a shit at all.

Just seen he has put a new one up think I’ll give it a miss

It’s actually good this one.
I was shocked when I saw it too…ROBBIE WILLIAMS?? But as a child of the 90s, I have always been relatively indifferent to Robbie William’s but this was quite good however I can’t say I feel very strongly towards Robbie William’s now. I was more of a Boyzone girl anyway.

tbf I don’t think that’s true*. personally I’m willing to forgo tough questioning and political insight in favour of what he is actually good at - getting a guest to open up and speak casually about stuff.

*that he doesn’t give a shit I mean

Yeah this is why I only really dip in for episodes with people I know have good or entirely bland opinions.

Absolutely not going near the HLew one, but We O’Brien was surprisingly okay. But yeah, he never challenges because that’s not his thing at all.

The Gladwell one was more of a knowing WTF listen and so actually was fairly enjoyable. Particular love how he manages to turn stuff back him (Gladwell) as if he is significant to stuff he reports on. Was a fuck off bit about not deplatforming fascists that amused me greatly: Gladwell did that whole episode on why right wingers interpret satire aimed at them as supportive of them…so why should he think you can intellectually disassemble fascists, particularly watching Trump?

thought the Zadie Smith one was brilliant tbh. Found her twopence on BLM really powerful.

listened to this, quite like Robbie but thought it was a bit weird. Adam basically kept telling Robbie that he doesn’t really like him / his persona, which Robbie took pretty well but gave the whole interview a weird dynamic

also he played him his pisstake version of rudebox which i found proper awkward even though robbie pretended to like it

thing with Buxton’s podcast is how every so often you’ll refresh your podcasts and he’s just like “yeah I’m chatting with Boards of Canada and Thomas Pynchon” and it’s sandwiched between a panel show randomer and Jason Orange
