I have an unusual interest in DR Congo as my Grandad fought there in the sixties. Still well interested in their football team too.

Going to go down the Clive Tyldesley route and get behind all Africa for this one

I think that as long as you pick a team nobody else on the site is supporting, you’re welcome to any of them.

I think you should support Angola.

Gotcha

This is my pick. 'Mon the Lions of Chinguetti!

And they’re off!

Hosts Egypt got off to a flying start with a 1-0 won over Zimbabwe last night.

Onto the main event today though as the other tie sees DR Congo take on the mighty Ugandan Cranes who beat Ivory Coast in a pre-tournament friendly last week and are going into the tournament in high spirits.

Elsewhere Nigeria take on Saido Berahino’s Burundi and Guinea face Madagascar.

Look at the size of this guy’s hand!

Uganda go 1-0 up after 14 mins! Come on you Cranes!

2-0! My main man Emmanuel Okwi just after HT

He had great hair when he played for Newcastle.

Uganda Top of the League, Uganda, Uganda Top of the League!

Nigeria supporter here

one of my best mates is Nigerian and i lived with him for 6 years starting in 2012 so we lived together when they won in 2013 BUT i wasn’t at home for the final, i got home about 5 minutes after full time. can’t remember where i’d been but always been annoyed that i missed it

Was Uganda beating DR Congo seen as a major upset?

Kind of but it’s largely based on the fact that DR Congo have a few recognisable names.
