Went to watch this on Channel 4. Geoblocked in Ireland. Disgraceful.

Last round of group games starts today already! Hard to feel too excited about any of the groups with most of the third place teams qualifying but hopefully things will kick into gear soon.

Nigeria and Algeria seem to have started best, Egypt are the other 100% team.

A couple of people I know went to Cote d’Ivoire vs Cameroon in Marrakech last night and it sounded like a shit show. Absolute gridlock for miles around the ground so they had to walk quite a way through traffic to get there, then there were huge queues and crushes getting in, they missed all of the first half. Sounds like everyone was ok in the end but not a great precursor to further games there. The games they went to in Rabat were thankfully great.

The mighty Comoros finishing third without scoring a goal means they’re one of the two third placed teams who won’t progress.

Nigeria are safely through, Tunisia are through if they or Nigeria avoid defeat. Tanzania and Uganda both need to win to get through, I think.

Group D qualification is basically settled unless can Botswana can win handily. 3 points is currently enough for Benin to progress but that might change by kickoff, depending on Group C results.

Gabon’s government have announced the suspension of the national team, the sacking of the coach and kicked Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang off the squad in the wake of three defeats at the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

I wondered why Aubameyang was completely absent yesterday. In fairness, I don’t think anyone expected them to get results against Cameroon or Cote d’Ivoire.

DR Congo statue fella can’t be enjoying this extra time
