If it’s flat letter too wide to get in the letterbox without bending and it’s under a flat doormat I think that’s a reasonable attempt not to bend rather than force it through the letterbox whilst leaving it suitably concealed.
Is the thing in there bent?
Also it’s unlikely to travelled in the vans/bag without pressure on it in some shape or form
Can’t really think of anything you’d put in a ‘keep flat’ envelope that wouldn’t risk being damaged or marked if you stood on it
