It’s an insane lifestyle. I remember hating our area manager when I worked in a bookshop. She seemed very proud of working a lot over the weekends and still being up at 10pm sending e-mails and organising stuff. Seemed constantly tired and like she’d snap if provoked even slightly. Also due to the nature of her job completely out of touch with what it was actually like working there, and universally despised amonst employees.
Funnily enough students bought pens and books because they needed to, much like people will shop at Aldi because they need food and like reasonable prices. Quite what her function was was a mystery to us all, I imagine it’s the same there.
Those high wages are designed to keep schmucks glued to the job because once in they’ll feel like theyre very unlikely to make that elsewhere and grind it out, but at what cost I asks ye
