Thinking about the Beastie Boys lyric mentioning Alfred E Neuman (Shadrach), and I had no idea that is the MAD magazine character, until now.
Don’t think I’ve ever read MAD magazine even though it has been there throughout the duration of my life. I have no idea other than my general impression about the magazine. Worth investigating further?
Used to read it when I was a kid, mainly for the film parody’s. Spy V Spy was also a strip in it and they had these cool pages you could fold to get a new picture.
Its basically somewhere between The Beano and Viz (But nothing to rude.) but glossier as American things tend to be.
Not to sure how it stands up nowadays though.
I had a bunch of Mad Magazine compendiums when I was a kid that we picked up for like 10p each at a jumble sale. Loved them, although the humour was very american so I didn’t get all of the references. Remember they did a good Purple Rain spoof story in one of them…
