It’s interesting you say that because I found Prometheus very bad (and I had wanted to like it) so didn’t bother with Covenant, but it felt like most people I know said it was better than Prometheus.
I’ve watched this and can endorse it. He doesn’t suddenly conjure up an all time great movie, but it’s better.

I thought Prometheus was okay, bit rubbish but not terribly so, while Covenant was absolutely dreadful, a real dogs breakfast of a movie.
Both films would be more interesting if they didn’t have to have Alien stuff in them when Ridders was clearly only interested in AI. Could potentially have been a decent standalone series

First 25 mins or so of Covenant (basically as soon as evil Fassbender turns up it explodes into a cloud of shit) is leagues beyond anything in Prometheus (aside from some the admittedly stunning visuals).
I’m just grateful that Ridley is one of us! The weird, uneven, ambitious and borderline incoherent stuff is what it’s all about imo. To me, they are clearly the best parts of the series after the first two, followed by Alien:Earth. I honestly disliked both prequels on first watch, but catching them again over the years they really grew on me.
Stuff like Romulus is diminishing returns to me. Just watch Alien.

It’s pretty entertaining from both franchise perspectives but completely unexpectedly it uses the Prometheus / Covenant narrative as a jumping off point.
