40" seems about right

got 32" smart tv in my bedroom, been looking for a thread to complain about it

complaint 1: bought one with ‘smart’ features because internal aerials are so rubbish, thought id just get content throught the apps, but the apps like all 4 require the tv to be tuned in, need to adjust the aerial for pretty much every channel so have to spend ages faffing to use the catch up apps. I know it is probably some tv licence demand, just seems weird as you can get catch up apps on loads of devices that aren’t tuned into to tv broadcasts

copmlaint 2: it updates itself in the middle of the night, like 1-2am, when it does this the light starts flashing green, often enough to wake me up. read a thread about it on the manufacturers forum where someone complained and said it makes it unsuitable as a bedroom tv and their response was ‘it is not sold as a bedroom tv’. Ive found a setting to turn off auto updates, which has reduced but not eliminated the problem, weirdly when I manually scan for updates it never finds one so assume it is just it uploading all its spy data

Generally there are far too many things with red/green/blinking lights on them, really irritates me at night.

I’ve got this good multi adapter plug where if the appliance plugged into the ‘master’ plug is turned off then it cuts the power to all the other outlets, generally pretty good, keeps all low level standby lights off, however in this scenario with the tv being the appliance in the master plug the green flashing light update is enough to make the plug think it is on so all the other things come on as well making clicking sounds and emitting light, but then it decideds the tv is off so everything goes off again, so it is just like a minute of chaos with things turning on and off, all at the time of night where I will have developed super hearing

I assembled two chairs at work

They think I’m being helpful

But it was definitely partly just me taking procrastinating to strange new places

So have moved stuff around (yes, again) and I’m pretty sure I now have the optimal layout for my existing furniture.

This leaves the area under the stairs completely free.

I don’t need any more storage, and I want some element of functionality, so I can only think of two things to do with it.

A. Have a day bed with shelves / decorations above for a kind of reading den. Could probably even fashion some kind of basic curtain to make it a proper den. But the only pictures I can find for this kind of thing are with fitted furniture, which I certainly can’t afford e.g.

Under-Stairs-Decor-Ideas62

This would fit for example

It’s a bit more modern looking than I’d prefer but I suppose that could be disguised with throws.

B. Have a desk for a study area. I already have a study in one of the spare bedrooms, so it’s completely superfluous, but then I have lots of seating already too

I feel like I’m clearly leaving towards A, but I just worry it won’t end up looking anything like the images I have in my head with just standard free standing furniture

I feel bad that my dilemma is having too much space…

Omg reading den 100%!

You could fill the space at the end easily I think, maybe with a little table or shelf for books or a lamp? Or a basket with blankets or cushions in? Or box it off like they’ve done in the first photo.

I’m thinking I’ll go down that route. Just a shame there doesn’t seem to be a better seating option.

Need to paint that part of the back wall first though.

These are the other walls in the room

Do I paint the back wall in the red or the green?

  • Green

And as for the under stairs wall (see previous post):

  • Red
  • Green
  • Leave white/cream

Maybe rather than something that really fills up the space like the pictures you posted, if you can’t get stuff properly fitted for it, you could have something like a comfy armcahir or chaise lounge tyoe thing andsome sparser shelving? Subject to that seating option being found to not cost more than a daybed.

I used to have it like that and it just didn’t really feel right, probably because it’s a bit removed from the main seating area. Just did a fairly risky trial involving balancing curtains on various bits of furniture stacked on top of other various bits of furniture and it actually makes a really cool den!

I’d put a piano in there (probably not helpful)

As I can’t play the piano and it’s a thin walled terraced house, probably not the best investment. Would look really great though!

Took this beauty last night when I finished my wardrobe.

Bonus reflection.

Is it sad that a new wardrobe has made me about 10 happier?

Thanks. I’m a bit obsessed with furniture and rearranging it. Just wish I had more light in my flat, and owned it, and has a load of money to make structural changes and fit a new kitchen.

Think I’d like a job decorating other people’s houses to help give me that decorating high all the time
