This started tonight on 4. A wilderness survival show where the contestants are dropped into the wilderness and left to fend for themselves.
I loved the US version of this. Coincidentally I started with their series set in the Canadian woodlands too.
First impressions is that the brits seem a lot less prepared than the Americans. They were all ex-marines, woodland survival trainers, indigenous people who lived off the land. They all seemed to whip up proper structures very quickly too.
Finding it hard in this first episode to tie names to faces the way theyâve edited it all. It felt like it was only getting started when the episode ended.
Didnât watch it but read an article about it. It sounded dangerous because as you say they were all pretty unprepared for living in the wild. Did some bloke really have to be airlifted to hospital because he badly cut his leg with an axe?
Yeah, after 4 hours. They do get 9 days training but they seem a lot more âeverydayâ than the ones in the American version. I think the winner of it lasted something ridiculous like 60-70 days
Watched a couple of the US series a while ago, entertaining stuff but wore myself out with the format quickly. Recharged now so looking forward to getting stuck in with this.
On the US one they are all already experts (or at least have a decent amount of experience) and then have a crash course on the local plants and also which animals can be hunted and by what method. They also have weekly medical checks.
Iâm a little alarmed at how inexperienced the Brit versionâs contestants sound. I guess there wasnât a deep pool of applicants? The US one is really hard to get on to.
Thereâs one contestant whoâs some sort of âforest rangerâ for want of a better word. Another has done round the world boat races, another whoâs the owner of an expedition travel company (donât know if he actually goes on the expeditions), one whoâs a builder. Everyone else seems to be like student, fashion designer, some sort of finance jobâŚI donât actually know anything about the others. The show is quite poor at giving any personal details so far.
