More people need to see Ratcatcher - so so wonderful. I love her, even though Kevin didn’t hit the highs for me that it did for a lot of people. YWNRH more than made up for that. 4.5 rounded up to 5 for me.

Saw Morvern Callar in the cinema earlier this year and it feels like an absolute lifetime ago now…

Think she’s an excellent filmmaker. Think I read she has had to deal with a lot of crap in terms of funding falling through for different projects so her filmography isnt as extensive as it should be.

The source material for Kevin I find a bit problematic tbh but she’s clearly always trying to do something interesting.

Nice to have a mix imo and besides I think Ramsey is an acclaimed and well known director.

I thought Morvern Callar was captivating and I think it’s the best I’ve seen of her style of filmmaking. I need to rewatch YWNRH (and aim to on Netflix soonish!).

Only one of those three I’ve seen I wasn’t so arsed about was We Need To Talk About Kevin. Individual scenes are brilliant - esp. the Halloween night - but on the whole it felt like her style jammed into a story that didn’t really suit it imo

Fair enough, under 20 posts feel a bit sad but I suppose not all directors are gonna generate chat.

I’m surprised by that. Michael Bay next!

All of this^

Not gonna vote because I’ve only seen about half of You Were Never Really Here, walked out of it because it was BORING WANK in my imho. Went and watched John Grant instead (this was at Green Man festival) which was also boring wank but did have flashy lights and a delicious paella stall.

I’ve heard of all her films listed just not seen any of them as none of them interested me apart from maybe You Were Never Really Here and that’s recent so not seen it (due to kid).

Why does your kid hate Lynne Ramsay so much?

Ha ha.

Also I guess also she’s not very divisive for this sort of thing. If you want lots of discussion you’ll need directors people disagree on.

Anyway, I’d guess she’s comfortably near a perfect 5 so.

Ratcatcher and Morvern Callar are excellent.

I wasn’t particularly fussed with We Need To Talk About Kevin, and I haven’t see You Were Never Really Here.

It would be nice if she made more films, but it’s hard to know the reasons why she hasn’t. I’d hoped the success of WNTTAK and YWNRH might encourage more people to back further productions, but they’ve not really changed anything, it seems.

she was meant to do Jane Got A Gun but it ended quite badly I think. Then the film got made and never existed

I guess this didn’t happen either

It’s a shame as it sounds absolutely incredible, although obviously Star Trek II already did it

Really rated Kevin and Never Really Here, both films had terrific lead performances and this atmosphere about them that was incredibly intense. Need to check out Ratcatcher and Morvern Callar.

Yup same. Thought both were brilliant though
