I’ve not seen the film, but apparently the driving scenes were based on this great interview with John Cassavetes

Tbf if you single any scene out in a Tarantino film, it will have been ripped off from something else

Pulp Fiction is overrated, Sin City is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen, Kill Bill 2 sucks and about 5 mins after I finished watching it my dad called to say Pepper the gerbil had died. Tarantino seems like a prize plum too.

But I really, really like Reservoir Dogs and Inglourious Basterds, and Kill Bill 1 is enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing.

Looks like I need to watch Jackie Brown. I gave him a 4 because I don’t really do directors but, based on the films he’s made that I like, I probably intend to watch most of the others at some point which isn’t something I can say for most directors

Reservoir Dogs is very good indeed, taut and exciting, still his peak before the flab set in

Pulp Fiction would be an average straight ahead film but is saved by a novelty structure. Saw it in the cinema when it came out, haven’t felt the need to watch it again

Jackie Brown is worthy but dull

Kill Bill 1 is fun, with some absolute standout sequences and choreography

Kill Bill 2 isn’t.

2/5

Gave up after that, haven’t seen anything else.

Pulp Fiction > Kill Bill 1 > Inglorious Barbeques > Reservoir Dogs > Death Proof > Kill Bill 2 > OUATIH > Hateful Eight > Django Unchained

Still haven’t seen Jackie Brown

I thought this for ages before I rewatched it last year, but a lot of the flashback stuff to before the job (especially the Tim Roth bits) really dragged.

haven’t rewatched it for ages myself… :grimacing:

Oh yeah, sure.

I think he’s one of those directors whose films work better as trailers: 5-10 second clips of scenes and one liners without the need for narrative or originality, smothered in, and cut to, a loud musical backing.

I know it’s a huge cliche to say Jackie Brown is his best film, but it really is. When he reins himself in a bit he’s pretty damn good. But he’s in love with his own mythology so instead we get bloated mess after bloated mess. Haven’t seen his last couple - the last half hour of Django was so bad and misguided I just cba anymore.

Still really annoyed at myself for paying actual money to see a tarantino film in 2019 like I didn’t know what to expect. Absolute mug

I saw it on a day off, a DAY OFF! Imagine all the endless possibilities I could have done with my afternoon.

Very very funny bit

yeah there’s loads of funny bits

The next time Quentin Tarantino releases a movie I will not watch it because I will know that I disagree with the people who say its good. And I’ll feel very proud of myself. Same for Wes Anderson

Meant to go to one of the anniversary cinema showings of Jackie Brown, as it’s been years since I saw it and wanted to check it holds up

Didnt make it

4/5 - nearly always interesting even when he’s bad, and he’s sometimes very very good

I’ll join you!
