Angel Olsen 2020

From the Jagjaguwar page

At least nine of the eleven songs on Whole New Mess should sound familiar to anyone who has heard All Mirrors . “Lark,” “Summer,” “Chance”—they are all here, at least in some skeletal form and with slightly different titles. But these are not the demos for All Mirrors . Instead, Whole New Mess is its own record with its own immovable mood.

Looking forward to hearing these.

Sounds a bit like a ‘Ruminations’ / ‘Salutations’ scenario.
Should be interesting. I’ve always preferred her solo or in a scaled back band setting.

She announced this album last year when All Mirrors came out. I had completely forgotten about it.

unreal, as usual

Think I prefer the bells and whistles to the stripped back version. Also not convinced that they aren’t demos. They certainly sound like demos.

They actually sound like they’re recording under water. I don’t get the idea of wilfully doing this.

think this sounds pretty great on one listen. feel like i’ve already connected with it more than i did with all mirrors.

Part of All Mirrors’ appeal is its overblown grandeur. This is fine but I much prefer the fuller sound.

it’s nice, but it’s missing the symphonic grandeur and opulent flourish of all mirrors
