It’s too small and I can’t afford it.

One other thing in our flat…

There’s a fairly prominent crack running diagonally across our living room wall - which I’m fairly sure is getting bigger. And the more I worry about it, the more I see other, little cracks in places around the flat. I don’t know when the place was last replastered - I guess if it was done badly it could settle / dry out and crack… other than that, I don’t know, I guess the whole place is about the fall down. Should probably report it to the landlord.

Ordering one of these as I type

This entire house needs replastering and repainting. We’ve been told they’re going to do it “soon” since we moved in. Four years ago.

Not enough plug sockets in the study

Stupid ceiling spotlights in every room. They make everything too bright and the bulbs last about 5 minutes.

I think starting a post in here will ruin my day so I’m just going to get back to worrying about mortgage applications instead.

I think you get used to most things after a while, or you get acquainted with good earplugs. (these bad boys are the best (and in the interests of full disclosure are made by one of my clients but still amazing- https://www.boconline.co.uk/shop/en/uk/laser-lite-earplugs?msclkid=64be7a913f07161ad21a21dc97d3bdd6&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=RM%20-%20Shopping%20-%20UK&utm_term=4574999164920356&utm_content=Main)

I once lived on the main artery road to the Royal London’s trauma centre, which meant ambulances with full sirens on 24/7. Thought I’d never ever get used to it.
Also lived under a flight path where plane were on landing descent or taking off, which became quite soothing in the end.

Our flat was inspected fairly recently so they should have spotted and recorded it then if they were concerned, but yeah, getting anything done takes an age. Especially now in this new place, we don’t just contact the landlord, we have to go through an online portal and fill out a form with the agency then uses to liaise with the landlord. Took about a month to get our bathroom light fixed, all he needed to do was unbend the fucking prong.

The garden’s not very big and doesn’t get enough sun to make having grass worthwhile.

Oh, and the back of the house might have subsidence, which I really ought to speak to the insurers about get checked out.

hoover?

We’ve complained to our landlady about sluggish repairs so often that she’s asked us for a recommendation for a new lettings agent. Which feels like a victory, but I’m pretty sure a new one would recommend putting the rent up by about £300 pcm to be in line with current market rate so I’m keeping my mouth shut.

Not a long enough hallway that you can’t get there from the living room.

tell her to fuck off the lettings agent

Don’t think she’s keen on doing it herself.

I need to buy a house really, but… cba.

Windows generally need replacing but the bathroom window in particular just will not open. There’s also no extractor fan. It’s mould central.

The flat is also single aspect (which doesn’t really help with the bathroom situation) which is sadly really common here in old properties. But at least we’re at the back!

This, but in my bedroom. 2 sockets. The extension lead wires have colonised the corner of my bedroom next to my bedside drawers and I hate how messy it looks; the 2nd extension lead that goes round the back of the bed gets in the way too.

I think someone has removed previous thick wallpaper quite aggressively, so there are scrapes and chunks taken out of the walls and skirting boards, edges and around chimneys (one in every room) are all wonky.

Lots of glosswork around the staircase, downstairs cupboard and front porch. All quite thick and tatty which really needs serious sanding down and re-doing. CBA.

Back of the house is lower than the front, so there is quite a void underneath, there is a door and you can crawl right around the whole underneath of the house. Found a dead rat under there and there is evidence of more hanging out. Trapped one under our bath, another was sighted in the kitchen. Too many ways in to seal them all.

Some possible land slippage as it is heavy clay, so the (steep) stairs to the garden has gone wonky. Bit worried this will cause more issues as there are pipes around there too. Blocking this out of my mind somewhat.

Only about a quarter of the attic has boards put down. It is a decent space up there but (CBA). Would like a snazzy built-in ladder to access it up (ditto)
