I didn’t chase you for an answer when you similarly didn’t respond to my request for clarification upthread (presuming that you didn’t wish to interact with me any further in this thread, which is/would be entirely fair enough - especially seeing as you’d already said you couldn’t be doing with keeping multiple conversations going about the same thing).

That’s not really how discussion boards work, though. Surely it’s better to be engaged in discussion than, inevitably, be a part of a discussion without knowing about it - something you’ve already voiced displeasure at. But if you literally never want anyone to reply to you on here about anything, then that can surely be accommodated if a way to communicate that request to all users can be found. (Those subtitle under name things?)

Is this said completely without irony, considering your being miffed at a lack of response to you?

Which makes me wonder if I’m missing a joke in the first para.

I’ve done my very best to use clear and considered language in this thread because the subject merits it, and it’s obvious that not doing so has lead - and will lead to - conflict.

Selectively constructing an abbreviated version of a conversation ain’t clarifying anything.

Yes, what you’ve highlighted is the likely intention. But there was another proposition in the post you’ve quoted from:

“I think the “very attached to” bit could be taken to be an insinuation beyond the raw result of the poll.”

Which (in my opinion) is/was a key element of why the thread went the way it did.

My question seeking clarification was quickfire, in direct response. Very much part of the flow of the thread at that moment. But the conversation moved on. So be it. And if the hunch understanding was correct then what was the point in dwelling on it? And if I hadn’t had the chance to ask that’s question at that time, I likely wouldn’t have bothered cos, as I say, things had moved on and it wasn’t that integral to the wider discussion which had developed.

And let us not ignore the fact that, despite a couple of missteps taken in good faith, there’s been some really worthwhile discussion in here.
