I’ve done my very best to use clear and considered language in this thread because the subject merits it, and it’s obvious that not doing so has lead - and will lead to - conflict.

Yes, what you’ve highlighted is the likely intention. But there was another proposition in the post you’ve quoted from:
“I think the “very attached to” bit could be taken to be an insinuation beyond the raw result of the poll.”
Which (in my opinion) is/was a key element of why the thread went the way it did.
My question seeking clarification was quickfire, in direct response. Very much part of the flow of the thread at that moment. But the conversation moved on. So be it. And if the hunch understanding was correct then what was the point in dwelling on it? And if I hadn’t had the chance to ask that’s question at that time, I likely wouldn’t have bothered cos, as I say, things had moved on and it wasn’t that integral to the wider discussion which had developed.
And let us not ignore the fact that, despite a couple of missteps taken in good faith, there’s been some really worthwhile discussion in here.
