Went through a period of working in the kitchens of a couple of firestations. Generally all seemed like really nice people. Obsessed with working out though.

Love how they’re all massive comrades and have a zero tolerance policy for taking any bullshit and hate the police.

If firefighters staged a coup and installed themselves as the government it would be really good. But they’d never do it, too much love of democracy.

tbh, I’d be calling 999 if I needed one, not posting on the boards

The reason that they’re not 20 stone, and the reason why they eat a lot, is because they spend all their downtime in the station gym.

yeah just thinking about how hot i am in my car sometimes. forgot about that aspect of fires.

you could just get other firefighters to cook for you, or get takeaway

imagine if you were a firefighter at a BBQ

this is a ‘firefighters are always making food’ joke

if you can’t stand the heat stay out of the kitchen fire

Did a week elective placement in emergency allied medicine at uni with the local fire service. Was pretty cool and possibly as predictable, kinda meatheady. Got a nickname by the end of the second day, ate loads of pasta bake, did exercise, got to see some fires. Got slapped on the ass a lot.

Yeah they seem to have a huge amount of free time. I can’t really begrudge them for enjoying their tea every day really, they can’t go for a pint or whatever while they’re on shifts or on call. They also deal with some grim shit when the time comes, cutting people out of vehicles after accidents and stuff.

I reckon it’d be alright to be honest. As a bunch they seem to be close-knit with plenty of bants, it just seems a bit like living in a student house.

A lot of them are ex-military (lad I know was a marine). It’s like they’ve done some serious shit in the Gulf when they were younger and to atone for it they now use their skills to save people.

I went to a fire station the other day. I was only there for a couple of hours but I got offered about 20 cups of tea. Great bunch if you ask me

When I think about being a firefighter I only really think about the fire station and the fire trucks and that and not actually about going out and fighting fires and cutting people from cars.

  • What?! They Fight Fire?!
  • Me too

The one local to me makes a point of regularly pointing out on social media that it’s a safe space where you can rock up if you feel unsafe, if it’s the middle of the night and you can’t get home, need to escape abuse or just need a brew and someone to talk to.

my grandad was a firefighter. the stories he’s got of fighting fires in like the 60s and 70s are fucking insane, just doing the most terrifying dangerous shit to save lives. incredible job. apparently he used to come home with no eyebrows all the time. my mam actually lived in london road fire station for a bit when she was a baby. when he retired coz his knees went my mam baked him a cake in the shape of a fire engine, it was amazing. always thought it was so cool that his work gave him an axe mounted on a bit of wood as a retirement present
