Anybody here play videogames?

They’re great!

I allow myself 1 new game a year or I’d just spend all my waking life on them. Don’t own my own console either for this reason, need to go somewhere or borrow someone’s temporarily to get my fill.
The odd night joining in on pal’s games doesn’t count.

But yeah they’re great. Probably the best art other than music.

Barely played anything this year. Hate getting used to new games/systems/inventory management etc and I spend a lot of time worrying that I need to push through the less fun initial bit to get to the bit where it all feels seamless and amazing but then I agonise about the sunk cost fallacy and… Urrrggh.

Had a miserable time with Baldur’s Gate 3 at the beginning of the year. Kept telling myself “this is an amazing game! Any minute now it’s going to click and you’ll love it…”

Ditched it.

Urrrggh.

I have probably 30-40 things in my steam library, but the only thing I actually properly play is Stellaris.

just play old games that you loved when you were a wee nipper, like big bird’s egg catch

Did this for years and the amount I got done with my creative pursuits was unreal. Would love to not have one in the house again.

how’s the Irish indie game dev scene? Maybe you could soundtrack one!

Never played this but the ideas a solid one. Maybe I just need to sit down and complete mario 3 again (with save states this time, I’m not an animal)

my dad had an Atari 2600 when I was a toddler, shit was like black magic and the best drugs ever. Can’t believe the adventures and sensations I would have on that blocky piece of shit as a child. Somehow weirder and more intense because the graphics and sound were so minimal I think

I love playing videogames, own all the current console systems…rarely have the time/ energy to play and that is really annoying.
Haven’t bought many new games this year either tbh.

what’s your favourite game of all time? No pressure!

this is pretty much similar to me.

i’m halfway through bg3, the new ffvii and several others but none have grabbed me. the level of learning and admin you have to go through gets old pretty quick. i also now have anxiety about how many games are available. i pick up and then put down.

all the time playing these games i just dream of shooting some bad guys without being lectured to or having to google how to do everything.

in short, the souls games ruined all other games for me

It’s either between Breath of the Wild or Hollow Knight.

Link to the Past or Super Mario World for the memories

For a real hit of nostalgia it would be gauntlet or tresure island dizzy. But in real life I expect they would be nearly unplayable.

What about you?

Tried to get into Deathloop and found it really confusing and overwhelming. I love the aesthetic and the attitude of it but it requires more effort to understand than I can be arsed with.
