big increase in dog shit. Dog shit everywhere these days

Someone who lives around here goes round with a spraycan of yellow line-marking paint and draws big circles around all the turds.

Not sure. Live in a quiet and ‘posh’ part of a very deprived set of towns and villages- burglaries happen occasionally but there’s not really ‘street crime’ around the part where I live. “The town” (i.e. the centre and the schemes) on the other hand is stabby central, but it’s always been like that and i can’t say that it’s become any worse in recent times. In fact it’s maybe a bit better since there’s a been a big campaign against knife crime and a terrifying new sheriff in town (for real) who largely ignores sentencing guidelines and is throwing all knife-carrying neds into jail for the max term regardless of pleas in mitigation. He even jailed a girl (complete first offender, seems like an aright lassie, had a job and stuff) who set off a fire alarm in the local hospital. I don’t actually believe that harshness in sentencing has any effect at all on crime levels, but crime does seem to have died down in the last year or so.

Universal Credit seems designed to force people into desperate acts I wonder if there is a correlation between areas it has rolled out and increased crime.

But yeah I think austerity measures hitting tipping points.

there was that murder the other day as well

All over the news as the brother of the kid who went off to fight off the middle east, but also a drug dealer himself. If it wasn’t drug related, I’ll eat my hat.

You’re not far from Glasgow though, right? I read something the other day that said that the progress they’ve made there on knife crime and drugs seems to be having a ripple effect on peripheral towns.

Who gets there kicks out of cruelty to animals or ppl there is literally no gain to it, its fucking horrible

Definitely notice more rough sleepers/ aggressive rough sleepers in that there London

About 25 miles outside, yes.

Yeah, that’s all so depressing. Seems really prevalent in coastal towns for whatever reason.

I was thinking about this recently. I was wondering if it’s just something that bothers you more as you get older, when in fact it’s the same as ever. I dunno. My neighbourhood is definitely looking shabbier though, which is down to Veolia doing the bins now and doing a not great job. Crime and stuff seems about the same. There was a shootout at the end of my street recently but that was completely out of the blue - nothing ever happens round my way.

I live in a not at all affluent inner city area and I’ve not noticed a deterioration recently to be honest. I’d actually say it was probably worse 10-12 years ago when I first moved in (I’ll inevitably get mugged this weekend now I’ve posted this).

It’s almost like all of the reporting I’ve seen about police not having the resources to deal with ‘minor’ crimes has given would-be criminals a free reign on doing what the fuck they want.

Even noticed it in the significantly more affluent WR, and friends have had muggings, burglaries, assaults etc reported to the police with literally no investigation.

Hope you’re alright, like. I think cycling everywhere (+ being male obvs) gives me a bit of level of protection from muggings that I don’t normally consider.

I deff prefer to cycle round the city at night to walking alone
