Anyone fancy a chat about the band The Gun Club

Heard Mother Juno a few years ago and really enjoyed but only just getting round to listening to anything else by then, in part due to Mark Lanegan mentioning them in such glowing terms in his bio.

Favourite albums, songs? Owt else?

It’s got to be all about Mother of Earth, song and album.

Listened to Fire of Love (first album I think?) a few times recently cos I really like the LA Witch album from this year and they cite them as an influence. It’s pretty cool.

I think it’s interesting how that American strain of post-punk moved into incorporating more blues/rockabilly type music. Gives it a bit of stomp that’s quite fun and definitely different from all the cold wobbly bass stuff prevalent over here.

not really, I dunno who they are

I also got into them after reading Mark Lanegan’s book. Miami, which @Ruffers posted a song from, is their most consistently brilliant album. Here’s another highlight from it:

The Las Vegas Story isn’t far behind Miami in terms of greatness, though, and this might be their best song IMHO:

One of those bands I’ve always meant to check out. I did see Jeffrey Lee Pierce with Nick Cave though.

Was obsessed with ghost on the highway (the song) a few years back.

I absolutely love the Gun Club. They’re, along with Husker Du, are one of the bands I was old enough to see back in the day but never did.
Do a YouTube search for the tube appearance, it’s one of my favourite telly band moments.

Still need to finish reading this (second edition bought a few years back).

Yeah I think this is my favourite track other than breaking hands

Might ask this for Crimbo

Love them. there’s very little to choose between the first 3 albums imo but ‘miami’ was always my favourite. had it on the other day for the first time in years and it still sounds ace.

This tune from ‘last vegas story’ hits me in the gut every time though. I love how wounded and unhinged his voice sounds…
