Newer blocks should in theory be better as they are built to higher level of regulation. Better insulation, sound proofing yadyadyayda

cons - take away delivery guys rarely can be arsed delivering to the 5th floor so you have to go all the way downstairs to collect your food / not tip them

pros - the Ocado man doesn’t have the choice other than to deliver 15 totes full of bottled water to your ‘sixth floor, no lift’ flat.

I used to live in a flat that was the top two floors (fifth and sixth) of a low level block - flats on two levels are good as you still get a good split between living and sleeping areas plus a ton of extra storage.

It was also end of landing so only one neighbour, plus built in the 70s so you couldn’t hear anything through the massive concrete walls anyway. Three balconies too. Miss that flat…

Gardens are basically rooms that get really messy even if you don’t go in them.

Top floor. My wife’s old flat was ground floor, and the floor above was a rental. A load of Aussies moved in (like, a comedy amount given it was a 2 bed) and it was a nightmare.

I can’t think of any pros, apart from them being cheaper than a house obvs.

Similar to this, below the flat that I lived in in Sydney was a two bed place that had eight Irish lads living in (one bathroom - must have been fun). Decent enough guys, but I’m glad I didn’t have to live below them.

Was woken at 5am one morning by immigration control smashing their front door in and hauliing one of them off for overstaying his visa. Heady times…

This is a con for me - whenever we’ve had online delivery we’ve had to go outside and ferry it in because the delivery driver doesn’t want to leave his van on double yellows. Can’t wait to get a car so I can be done with online shopping (there’s no big supermarkets around me, and fuck taking a big shop on the bus)

Tell me about it japesy. I think it started with a small little cabinet thing for a few pairs of shoes - like how some fancy apartment buildings have little side tables in the corridors? But it’s grown and it just looks a fucking mess if I’m honest.

My old neighbours used to do this. Was a bit of a state but then they evicted for reasons I won’t go into here.
