Applying/removing capo mid-song?

I know.

Are there any fancy capos that make this easier? Or clever way round this?

Couple of songs need plus semitone and plus tone shift/drop DURING the track.

Why. Oh why.

The clamp type ones are super quick to remove (and stick on headstock) til you need it again

Yeah been at some gigs with great folky guitarist who can use this when in opening tunings to basically move the capo around at will, every few bars. Seemed like it changed place 10 times in one track

Into being able to only clamp some of the strings with my one of these too. Just to make anything I write even more of a pain in the arse to recreate

Another vote for the clamp type capo. However I amused myself by thinking of Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi using one in one of their massive key-changing rock anthems

Whoa, you’re a loaded gun
Whoa, there’s nowhere to run
No one can save me
The damage is done

SAMBORA : Hang on lads… *wrestles with capo* Okay off you go

SHOT THROUGH THE HEART AND YOU’RE TO BLAME

You give love a bad name (bad name)

Are you all going to change capos at the same time, like when Westlife stand up at the key change?

X2, maybe.

I sort of regret asking; I didn’t know capo-related humiliation was a thing!

I’m only teasing

Surely this is the perfect situation for an absurd multi-necked guitar!

Oh believe me this has been discussed. Sort of want one…

the pinchy ones are good but wont it be a bit out of tune just from moving a capo around? always want to retune after i move one around.

One of these might do the job: Greg Bennett GLX1 Glider Capo (Genuine USA) | Reverb UK

I have one of these. It is the best. You can move it up or down with one hand using the same grip as barring & they come with interchangeable bits for different guitar radii

Thanks! I ordered a cheap version of that yesterday. Looks like the best capo-based option, defo. If it works, I’ll buy that version.

Just needs to be able to flip past the nut, which the reviews say it can…

I don’t think any of us did until now, TBF

(I am sorry for the jokes but equally, cripes man, is there no other way?! )

The take-away for anybody reading this and laughing at my expense, should be this:

If you make some records that you’re pretty sure you won’t perform live, don’t be so sure that you won’t perform them live.
