I hated this film too much for it to not exist

Please Ant, would I like this if I rated all of RJs other films as being between good and excellent?

It is definitely his weakest, I’d probably find it way too whimsical if I was watching it through fresh eyes these days but I think it’s really well plotted and “a fun romp” and I really love the score.

Those are the three most important points for me tbh so I’m sold

I think I might like your film taste the most out of anyone’s film taste

I think he’s fine in The Grand Budapest Hotel, he’s in one of the funniest bits anyway

What a thing to say!

if that’s the best you’ve got…

I have only been watching pure and wholesome films as of late, like Fargo and Prince of Egypt.

Cruising - Liked this a lot, solid ending too. Think they could have done a more with Al Pacino’s character though, it felt a bit by-the-numbers.

niche request time: any good films that are set in the hamptons/long island type of area?

Funny Games (US)?

Good one but i’m very resistant to watching that tbh, dont want the original to be tarmished.

Have you never seen it? Don’t think it tarnishes the original at all, if anything there is a positive to not having to read subtitles in terms of dread etc. Obviously wouldn’t normally advocate for english language remakes but it’s Haneke at the end of the day and a fucking great cast.

yeah fair enough but only really exists for people who can’t be arsed to read subtitles innit. nobody could ever be more evil than arno frisch imo.

Fine, afraid you’ll have to watch Eternal Sunshine then m8
