Have they Streisand affected themselves?

Effect whatever

Completely. They should have seen the danger of dismissing allegations and doubling down at the launch over the “funny tinge” thing, particularly given this is what the Labour part claim they resigned over. Doesn’t help that they haven’t taken changed Mike Gapes’ password on his Twitter account and not told him what the new one is either.

it’s weird that the guardian is pushing this in 2019 when everyone worked out the agenda behind jenkins brand of “let’s sit down and debate” toryism a while ago. Even the nyt have mostly abandoned those awful “being mean to trump fans only makes more Nazis” takes.

the guardian is a conservative paper that sprinkles a few apologetic social democratic takes here and there

Tonight’s Have I Got News For You is spicy. Jonny Mercer MP looking very uncomfortable. Hasn’t been like this since the old Boris appearances.

A-ha ha ha!

So Mercer will be favourite for the party leadership inside five years then…

He’s already being “tipped” in some places, eg this (paywalled, but you can see his mug at the top)

A political class struggling to appear relevant would definitely be into the whole “ex-soldier to appeal to the common man” thing.

I’ve often wondered to what extent the media’s adoration of a former soldier has to do with a private shame felt by mainstream journalists for their own extremely comfortable and morally void lives, and to what extent a tacit endorsement of Britain’s murderous foreign interventionism.

Anyway here’s a nice picture of the big man.

i don’t think soldiers = common man. i think the soldier is more of an aspirational figure for the common man, as he can legally do the violence the common man can only impotently threaten in the comment sections below local news stories about sex offenders on facebook.

I’m reading this with quotes around every instance of “common man”?

oh yeah, the common man only exists in the minds of zone 2 hacks anyway!
