  • really shite defending and goalkeeping

same with Maradona innit

I think he and Messi have very similar levels of ability in terms of close control of the ball

but Messi had been able to demonstrate more often, and does when moving faster at least in part thanks to the pitches he plays on

Proposed behind closed doors games in Germany as the country is slowly starting to re-open. I like the bit where Sky reports that “serveral clubs in the top two divisions are facing financial ruin due to the stoppage” without mentioning that it is Sky’s TV deal that’s holding said clubs hostage.

Good to see Leeds back in the Champions League for next season then

Barcelona want to offer Semedo and Umtiti for Ndombele.

Whilst I would take literally anyone at right back over Aurier - is Semedo good? and Umtiti is a bit crocked isn’t he?
Also, definitely, definitely should not be giving up on Ndombele already. He’s been unfit and injured, come to a team in terrible form and had to adjust to a new league and two different managers.
Lots of our fans seem to want rid already though.

Following the Dutch government’s decision to cancel all football until 1 September, the Dutch FA has announced the following decisions:

  • both Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie seasons will be abandoned and the league tables will be ‘frozen’
  • Ajax will be the number one team in the 2019/2020 competition and qualify for next season’s Champions League or the CL qualifiers*
  • Ajax will not be crowned league champions
  • current position 2, AZ, will play in the Champions League qualifiers
  • numbers 3 to 5, Feyenoord, PSV and Willem II will play in the Europa League (qualifiers)
  • no promotion or relegation between the two top leagues

The biggest loser in all of this is FC Utrecht, who played one game less and could have reached fifth position, overtaking Wilem II. They had also qualified for the Dutch FA Cup Final, which has been scrapped too.

*) too complicated to explain what can happen between now and the start of the next CL season and how that affects qualification
